I finished the cornfield & started a new one

This morning I checked the weather radar when I got up and it didn't look like the rain was going to get here until later in the day, so I ran out to the field to see what I could find. I finished covering the whole school yard area in the cornfield today and I found 1914d Barber dime, a 1868 shield nickel, and a 1899 V nickel. About the time I was getting done with the field it started to rain, so I went checking on some other fields/ 1 room school houses that I have been researching. One of the places that I drove by was a nice beanfield and I knew where the owner lived so I went and knocked on his door and got the ok to MD in his field. About that time it stopped raining so I went and checked out the new field.

When I first got to the field I was trying to find a clean spot to GB the MD'er and I got a nice penny signal. When I was looking down to PP the target I noticed the lobes on the coil were starting to brake again. I guess my fix it job 4 months ago didn't work. The target turned out to be a crusty IH cent. Sweet, that the way I like to start a new field, but not having the coil brake, lol. I put on the 9" concentric coil and went back to MD'ing and found 2 more crusty IH's in the first 15 min's. A while later I found a cool key and then what I thing is a button and it's a little different, lol. As I was working my way out the finds were starting to slow down so I moved back to the area that I found the IH's at and was working that area and it started to rain a little. Then it started to rain a lil harder and getting a lil windy so I figure it was time to call it a day and was heading back to the pickup when I got a crappy signal and I don't even know what the numbers were. I shoveled out a good sized pile of dirt and when I saw the coin setting in the bottom of the hole I knew it was a LC just by the size of it, a 1851. Boy was that a nice way to finish a rain shorten hunt.

The IH's are 1864, 1891, 1902. Since the IH's were kind a crusty I put them in some Lime a Way for only 5 min's, I think and they came out a lil cleaner then I wanted them to be, lol

If anybody knows anything about that button please let me know.

Cool button.....I wonder if that key can unlock the shakles of the chain on your button.:)

Great finds. Sorry to hear about the 4%^$#n coil breaking:thumbdown:

Congrats on the very good hunt! I really like that very cool button. Good luck with an ID on it, Beale.

that button is awesome, find of the day!!! is it about same size as a half dollar? I would love to hear the story on that one!

The button thing is just about the size of a half dollar. I think the button is way cool, but I think the LC was the find of the day because I can see a date and it doesn't have a hole in it.

the key looks like its for a railroad switch lock. I have a few they usually have initials on them for the railroad they are for. all the ones that I have are brass.

I don't know why but I was kind a thinking that myself. Their is no initials on it, only the maker of the key " Fraim "

I would have figured you would have found dozens of them the way your luck is at finding good places!

Hey, you do pretty darn good yourself.

Nice finds , one of these days I want to find a shield nickel.

Your button has the answer on it.

Alsace and Lorraine are two disputed provinces that lie on the border between France and Germany. In the 1800s they switched ownership several times and each time the other side claimed that the other committed atrocities. This button was probably produced after one of the invasions, I suspect either in 1871 or 1914 (WW1 or the Great War) and probably is showing the German dictator Kaiser Wilhelm chaining the two together. One has more French speaking citizens and the other more German speakers.

A nice piece of late 19th or early 20th century political propaganda.

Nice find, I suspect a "doughboy" brought it home after WW1. (191:geek:.

Fantastic day by the looks of it! Except for the coil breaking. The button is totally cool. And with plenty of pre-1900 era coins, you've gotta love it.

Nice finds. That button is really nice. Good to see you still out hunting Mark. By the sound of things, we only have a few days left before winter sets in over on this side of the State. I hope to get out today and tomorrow. But if the frost don't hurry up and melt, it is going to be slick out in those fields. HH Randy
