I finally got to take a Seat today!!

Great day for hunting here in the Desert Southwest, sunny and in the mid 50's and the Mrs. gave me the green light to go dig for the day. I headed to my favorite stand by, the local zoo that was founded in 1898. It seems that I'm the only one hunting at the present(maybe not anymore) I headed to a spot that I had a feeling was going to produce today. Well....sure enough, 10 minutes into the hunt and I get a 11/43 12/44 on the CTX, thinking I was about to dig a copper or a clad dime, at 6" out comes a silver dime. I rubbed the back and thought I had a Barber until I turned it over and saw lady Liberty having a seat, 1891 O I almost fell over backwards, usually all the zoo gives up anymore are rosies and mercs, after I picked my jaw up from the ground I gave my buddy(Jimmy) a call and after a few curse words, he did manage a congrats.
I made a another pass and this time I ran my coil over what I thought was a folded dollar bill, I took my phone out to shoot a pic, not having my glass on, I'm thinking maybe a $5. I unfolded it and just started laughing, I couldn't believe my good fortune today!! A freaking $50 bill and a seated in the same day, it pays to follow those hunches!!!
I did manage to find 3 wheats and a 44 merc before calling it a day, all in all, a damn good hunt for this area of the world. Seated coins are as rare as hens teeth around here, and this was my first of the year. My buddy(Jimmy) found a 1876 seated half this summer in a private yard 60 miles from where I live. Hopefully I able to get out one more time this year, this puts my yearly total for silver coins at 77

Awesome day! Congrats!

HOLY SMOKES, Dan! A Seated, AND A $50?!?

Great day! You were blessed, on this Christmas Eve!

Congrats!!

Steve

Thanks Steve,

I'm in the same boat as you and Jason when it comes to old silver, I think I was more pumped about the dime than the $50 lol

That zoo,I’m sure, has MANY more surprises that even YOU won’t believe! But that’s a pretty flippin’ good day there Dan,sign me up!:)

I'm hoping my EQ800 is the key to unlocking those surprises :) It seems your doing rather well yourself 150+ silver, I take a bow to you sir!!!

I'm green with envy Dan the lady and Grant, I propose a toast:beers:
I'm thinking the Nox might be just the ticket for admission to the zoo.

LOL, Dan. I think you are right; you, Jason, IDX, myself, and several others here are indeed in the same boat -- rather have the Seated than the $50! LOL!!!

Steve

Thanks Dan,it was much work as you know. Next season will be more concentrated on targeting really old low/mid conductors such as weird denom coins and gold. I’ll pick the silver if it comes, but I feel as if I need to switch gears to keep interested. If silver were 100 bucks an ounce,it’d be different. But it’s not. Even with 29-30 ounces of silver in my drawer in coins and rings,it’s still not enough to sell it and make a difference, really. Gold is where it’s at,though astronomically more difficult to find on a regular basis. But not harder than 50 dollar bills!

Funny you mention your focus this coming year, I cherry picked all my old sites, but, left a boat load of low to mid range targets. My goal is to go back and force myself to concentrate on cleaning these signals up and see how much gold and weird stuff I left behind. Fortunately for me, I'm the only one hunting these sites in my area. I've seen 1 other person in 3 years around here and they were from out of town(no threat) lol

That's where I'm trusting the Nox to help in the iron and the higher frequency to shine, time will tell, Old habits die hard :)

Outstanding on that seated, Dan. Finding the $50 is cool, too, but have to agree that I would have been more excited by the dime.

Take care & HH,

Ron

You know coinshooters are a strange breed when a dime gives you more of thrill than a 50 spot :)
