I finally got some detecting time with my ATPro

First time I've used it. I got to put four hours on it this past weekend. I have one of the falsing coils so I had to keep it two inches above the ground. If it touched the ground it sounded off which got to be aggravating when dealing with all the additional iron falsing I experienced.

The site ground balanced at 94. This is probably a moderate site for me so far as ground minerals go. I left the sensitivity at the preset level of 6 bars. It falsed a lot in iron, perhaps due to the high mineral/iron combination and the high sensitivity level, perhaps due to a combination of that and the coil issue. Regardless, I found it a likable detector. I cycled through the modes about every thirty minutes to alleviate the audio fatigue it caused. Std mode, then Std with Iron Audio On, then Pro mode, then Pro mode with Iron Audio on, then back to Std. Worked well enough for me to spend 4 hours straight with it without getting a headache.

I had no EMI problems. My fishers usually experience some EMI here. Depth performance was pretty good for that dirt. May have performed even better if I'd lowered the sensitivity another bar or two. What I liked best about it was the audio in Pro mode with a really slow sweep. It likes loitering, where you move the coil real slow an inch or three to the left and stop and think about what you heard. then maybe return an inch diagonally down toward your right foot and reconsider. I like that. I like that a lot. That is why I'm keeping it. I'm looking forward to getting it back from Garrett with a non-falsing coil. Being able to put the coil on the ground will make it a superb loiterer.

Hi Mike glad to see you here on the Garrett forum. You gave me a lot of info on the f5 I had. Nice little detector. The AT PRO seems like a good little keeper so far. It gets down there and gets the good stuff. I'm still learning it. Can't wait to get your take on it when you get it back. Keep us updated on it.

that is one of the thing's I like about it you can almost stop over the target and still get depth...You can really meander through a site with it....

sounds good.... Hope they get it fixed for ya....while they got it see if they have a fix for the Custom mode memory retention .... It seems to be popping up alot...

Might be an update? Some do it some don't....I got hold of 3 that the custom mode failed to hold memory....1 first run and 2 later runs with the coil fixed...

Mike, we both got the F5 around the same time in late 2008, and I've piggybacked on your research and knowledge of it ever since.

Doing it again with the AT Pro and once more I'm looking forward to piggybacking.

I think this one is going to be a keeper because of unmasking ability like I've never seen with a large coil.

You're going to miss that fourth tone, though!

Sorry to hear about the problem with bumping the ground. Garrett will take care of it. I scrub the ground regularly with mine and it is stable and I am sure yours will be as well when you get it back.
