Bought a Vaquero. What a great little machine. I only have about 4 hours of use but already I can ID a penny and estimate whether the target is deep or shallow (I'm no genius, it's all the machine). AND - the very first thing I found was a Susan B.! I have had a DFX for three years and an SE for one year and thought I would miss the ID screen. As far as low conductivity targets I do, but as a cherry picking coin machine the Vaquero is hard to beat. To say I am happy with it is an understatement.

It IS plagued by aluminum screw caps and cans but them so are the DFX and SE. I REALLY like the Vaquero.

good for you, and all those years you thought they were just toys. so did i until i tried one, now i tend to buy nothing but. they are a greeeeat detector for the money and you don't need college to learn how to use them.

good luck with your new detector.

Tesoros effect me that way. The V is a great choice. The bottle tops will stand out after you get used to them. Pull tabs can be learned, but the different sizes, depths, shapes and consistencies of aluminum is next to impossible to learn them all.

I think everyone should have at least two Tesoros encase one should go down.

Glad you like your V,

i personally think i should have at least five, now its trying to convince the wife of that!:argue:

HAHAHAHHAAH...Probably a big "NO".............

Thanks guys. Now - any advice, tips, etc.? I have a lot to learn.

use it, use it use it. all you have is know how and the sounds that machine will give you. it's like bow hunting verses gun season.

Just sneak it under the x-mas tree - she won't know what it is till you open it - then - too late - go ahead...... :starwars:

wow what a nice machine i wanted to get one but my budget was to low i can say the tone I.D is not that much of an advantige im getting along fine whithout it and it seems that you can tell targets whith the tesoroes im sticking whith tesoro somthing i like about them cant place it i had to go from a cibola to a silver umax but i think i will like the silver better its got the all metal mode but it comes whith that jokey 8" coil to bad for me

Sorry you lost your Cibola. Glad to hear you got a Silver.

The Silver may not have some of the advantages of the Cibola but the Silver is celebrated as one of the best deals for the money in the market. It actually has a couple of advantages. Funny thing is that as much as I loved my Cibola, I could find things with the Silver that the Cibola missed. But I had slim pickings when I went back after the Silver. That's no joke. I love my Silver and I have trouble leaving it alone. It always wants to go out and play. It's like an little pet that wants to get out and run. And it's lots of fun too.

Good fortunes,

is just a personal thing.
If the brown 8" coil is the least favored, I wonder which coil is the most favored for the Silver?
Note that I said the brown 8" coil is MY least favored coil from Tesoro, and I am referring to general application uses.

It's OK for the Silver

I liked most of the former white-colored 8" coils because:

I have the 12X10 concentric, the 7" concentric and the stock brown 8" coil that came with my SS uMax. The 7" is my favorite. The brown 8" works very well though and has real good depth on the SS uMax. It has decent seperation and pin points great. It's lighter and better than the Garrett 8 1/2" coil.

I had a 5.75" on my Cibola and liked it better than the 7", but sold it with the Cibola because it wouldn't work on my SS uMax or my Euro.

I guess there's no dissagreement here but after using other brands of MD's the brown 8" is just great in my book.

Best wishes,

I have a new V and in two hours have found 16 cents in clad . In my high school days I used Dads Goldak an hour or so and am therefore a newby. Tot lot hunting is a good way to start ! I am an acolyte.
