And no I didn't buy the spent 22carts on EBAY neither!!
All I have to say is thank the Lawd I was detecting in the water over a sandy bottom, cause my jaw hittin' hardpan would'a left some nasty bruises. I am still stunned at the performance of the Edge with the new small coil in iron. All I kept thinking was if somebody told me this I'd call'em a liar. What I'm about to relate is true, no hyperbole, because none is needed.
I took the Treasure Barge to a camp beach dating from the 1850's. I've had some wonderful finds there but is just iron hell, nails, bolts, nuts, flat washers etc. This was my first real chance to use the Edge with the new small Fisher coil.
Using my el cheapo Edge wading harness I entered the water set Sens to 8 found a clean spot(not easy, took 10 min.) and GB'd. I then set Sens to 10 and dialed up the JL jewelry preset. I'm recovering from a nasty cold so I didn't want to dig silver a foot deep. And the real test for me is how does the machine do with low conductors in the presence of iron.
During my sojourn and glancing down at the meter during periods of silence, there were -30's showing 75% of the time, and in some areas it approached 100% of the time. Keep in mind that this is with a small coil that covers a very small area. I've hunted this area with the CZ20 8 inch, Excel 8 inch, and Edge 8 inch and cleaned out a good number of 22 carts. But I was just not prepared for what I was to experience.
Time after time I pulled up 22carts laying on top of iron, I would pull the target and re-check the hole and get a -30's reading, not a mild -5 to -10. I just couldn't believe it! It's as if this whole area has never been touched.
I did not dig one piece of iron, what's pictured, is what I dug. The large iron/edge perimeter effect was short and weak. There was no need for pinpoint as the coil is so small. So why dig the 22carts? Well the dang things ID anywhere from +04 to +14 which is the same as jewelry. As a matter of fact the 14K earring, which was open when found, rang just like a 22cart.
To be honest it was just stupid easy, no brainer, very little skill needed, in other words if you can't handle iron with this setup, you need to find a new hobby.
