I dug a super nice target today

I got out today to a freshly cut hay field near a stream. I hit a 2center some sort of butter knife a key fob and then the find that sent me right to the truck a Native American Kettle Point. My first one and something I've really hoped to find. Very pleased with this point.
This was a very tough target sound only one direction, iron grunting and a solid 9-10" barely a target. Lucky to hit it.

Ok Todd you'll have to bring me up to speed here....what exactly would a kettle point be used for? A special find for sure along with the 2 center!

I'm interested also, I've got 4 of them and thought they were just kinda like tinklers and tied on a vest or something lie that

Here's the deal. When the Missionaries first met with the Native Americans they traded with them and gave them copper pots and Kettles. When the kettles or pots failed the Indians repurposed the copper and made arrow points out of them. They come in lots of sizes. It's the 1600s guys and super tough to come up with. Hence the name. Kettle Points.

Great find Todd!

Was there a thought at any time that the signal was junk or were you unsure what it was and dug it. What were the numbers? Curious if it was a good signal or one of those ?????? signal.

It was an awful signal. Iron grunts,Occasional positive tone, and very deep. On old sites you don't stand there thinking about it you dig all positive signals. I don't know what it read for TID but I can say it wouldn't have mattered anyway. You won't get great tones and perfect TIDs on the deep stuff. You consider the site you're on and dig. Lots of times it is junk and that's just part of detecting. Happy Hunting

Thanks Todd, I don't get to many old sites, but when I do I wanted to understand what's happening and why. makes perfect sense.
