.... I went out and got the Garrett 250, nice little cheap machine for my 14yr old son. My main unit is getting boring so I take out the 250 for a spin. Where do I go with it... to a wet-sand, medium to heavy mineralized, West Coast saltwater beach. And low and behold at a sens. setting of 4 notches under max, in all metal mode I start finding coins "everywhere", found 8 dimes, 11 quarters , 6 badly corroded pennies and half of a silver ring!!!(Some of these targets were 8 inches down in marbled dark sand)!! This was in the space of less than 2 hours, it began to rain heavily so I had to call it a day. I just don't get it, this is a cheap starter unit right.....a cheap starter unit........I'm amazed!!

Over 20 yrs ago I had a friend that had a Masterhunter. Naturally he kicked my butt.
I had a Compass BFO and vowed one day I would have a real detector.
It took 20 yrs to get a real detector(Tesoro Eldorado) followed a year later by a Tesoro Cortes.
Since my first introduction to a real detector was Garrett, I have been watching and lurking.
I think when the ground thaws I will have a 250 to compliment my Tesoros.

John,
It's a unit that will surprise many hunters in the coming months, it is not just a cheap unit that will only find things 2 or 3 inches down, it will keep up with the higher end units.
Then technology in that 250 and it's capabilities is awesome!!
Back on new years eve, I took it to a field behind a restaurant to look for the managers gold wedding band he threw out there a month earlier.
In 10 minutes I had found it, using the jewelry mode I knew I had it when it locked onto it.
He and I both were amazed that I found it that quick, in a high grassy and weed field. Of course luck played a part that I walked over the right spot like that.
but since using and testing it, I have found many civil war relic's I did not think were left in the field. It's a pleasure to use, and fun at that.
Good Luck in your future finds.
