i don't think i like my new ace 350

LIL ROB

New member
hi everyone i just got an ace 350 and i don't think i like . if anyone can help that would be grate. if i am in coin mode it may sound off and show 25 cents and then its gone never to sound off anymore like a ghost , or i find it and its a small piece of beer can ( small to med ) if i turn the sensitivity down, same thing i may find it may not . this thing went off and showed a penny so i dug and nothen i checked the hole and the pile ( nothen). sometimes when i try to pin point something and cross the target and go up in the air over my head its still sounding off ... maybe it was that 747 at 20 thousand feet (LIL JOKE) this is just a few things its doing it does funny things in every mode. i was hopeing after i got this 350 i was going to save time digging i have a ace freedom pulse that was my grandmothers and its seems to do better. should i have saved up more and got a A.T. pro?? thanks for any help you guys and Gail's can give .. p.s. i am using dubble D coil

Yes I hear ya....I have the 350 also. U gotta keep in mind...no matter what machine u use u will always dig up trash. I suggest to get the sniper coil for the 350. The target id is dead on....it doesn't go as deep as the dd coil but u won't dig as much junk but u still will. Don't fret about the 350. Its a good machine...no need to get an at pro.

well thanks for the info i was thinking that a newer detector with better discrim than my ace freedom would save me from digging junk . got any thought on why the pinpoint sounds off after i cross the target and keeps sounding even if i go over my head?

Have you tried resetting the 350? I tried my 12-1/2 imaging coil at the river the other day and it was acting up, but I did find my second mercury dime with it.
Of course, it's another model detector by garrett, but some times just holding the power button down on my unit to reset it takes care of some falsing. I have detected what I thought was a coin and dug into a rust pocket where a nail or something had rusted away and after I dug through the dirt, I had no signal. When the pinpoint button on my unit sticks, it makes a lot of fuss until I realize that's the problem and unstick it. I've also had some interference from overhead power lines. Hope this helps. HH.

Hi LiL ROB, Try calling Garretts, They can help, the detector should not do that. It must get stuck in pinpoint or something. Garretts Is very nice and they will walk you through it or tell you to send it to them to fix. Good Luck Flintstone

The Ace 350 with the double d coil takes some getting used to but,
all in all it a pretty good set up. I have to say I despised mine at first
also. One I got a pro pointer and watched a bunch of videos on line
from Garrett it all came together for me. I have been detecting since
Sept. and I have some pretty good numbers on clad one gold ring.
one silver ring three silver coins one was a seated and I do plan on
getting a sniper coil for mine. I'll tell you though I bought the sports
pack and hardly ever use the larger coil. I mainly use the smaller 5x9
coil and have had digs as deep as 11 or 12 inches. For the money
I believe this is a very good buy. Falsing on occasion I have run into
I believe one time it had to be underground wires. I changed the coil
thinking I was going to be sending it back to Garrett but had the same
reaction with the other coil. I moved out of the area and all was fine.
Well I wish you the best with your future hunts, keep on posting. HH

thanks everyone for the help.. i do reset the 350 often if i cant get a Handel on it in a few days i will call Garrett i hope nothen is wrong with it i got two weeks off for Xmas and i want to try the beach .. thanks guys i needed to hear i wasn't alone on this thing i may just need to get some more time under my belt on the up side i got the wife talked into a pin pointer last night after trying to dig a dime as the sun was going down getting her out of that hole was like trying to get a pit bull off a cat we got it

well i called Garrett they said i could send it in and they would check it out ..they didn't have to much to say about the pin point problem i am having except take the battery's out and put them back in and reset it witch i have already done before and once more this morn:sad:ing the only bummer is i wont get it back in time for my Xmas's brake i got two weeks off starting Friday so I'm just going to keep it tell i come back to work..thanks for every ones input.

What you described in your first post is exactly what happens to my 250! Its driving me freaking bonkers!!! I tried resetting, batteries in and out.. same thing. Seems every time I swing it it beeps then if I go back over where it beeped theres nothing there. Its frustrating and I've had better luck with my cheap bounty hunter with no bells and whistles.. I also have the DD coil..

Wetdogg, when you go back over the hole and the plug and get no signal you have to change the mode that your in and then you will pick up your signal again.
If your getting a quarter signal most of the time but not solid it bounces once or twice your going to find your target in that area on the scale that it bounced once or twice to.
Go to the mode at the bottom, the zero mode and re-detect your plug and your hole and you will locate your target. It might not be what you wanted but you'll find it. Most
often your going to want to run the detectors sensitivity at about four notches.

I've had the 350 for several months and it takes that and some for a beginner to learn it. I'm still learning. I can't say what is wrong with a machine that continues to sound off when lifted away from the ground, unless you are near a power source that is producing EMI. All machines will pickup junk, the 350 is no exception. However, if you learn how it really works you can greatly reduce the amount of trash

Let's talk coins. When you hit a coin the indicator will stick on the coin 99 percent of the time and you will get not one bell tone but several ding, ding, ding, each time you pass the coil over the coin. If the indicator jumps and you get just one bell tone each time you pass over it it is probably junk. Not always but most of the time. Zincolns will often jump a little. Just pay close attention to the sound first, and then the indicator. Throw a few down and practice listening to the sound. Once you learn that you'll do much better.

As far as pin pointing. I often have had trouble with that as well. I pin point and then do a 90 degree turn to the side and pin point again. I've done much better that way.

Don't give up, I've been doing this for 5 months and am just now getting good with the 350. I have about 10 dollars in clad, 2 gold rings, many keys, toys, cheap jewelry, etc. You have to be where it is to find it.

I have an AT Pro that should be here on 12/27 and I get to start again. Good part is, once you learn the 350, you know half the AT Pro.
