I don't think I can do this without a Golden uMax in the house :sadwalk:

Sure miss it. My cleansweep coil just sits in the corner grieving.

There have been times when I'm tempted to go back to my original Golden/Cortes combo.

Just seems to be impossible to get all the features I like into one unit.

sigh

Mike, I recall you singing the praises of the Golden several times over the years. I'm surprised you don't have one in the stable all the time. As to getting all the features you like in one unit, what better excuse to own several detectors do you need? LOL When you find a good deal on one, go for it.

Mike I think I bought my Golden after reading you posts. I use mine for sweeping sport fields for fresh drop. I use a lot of descrim. I get about 3" of depth which is right for fresh drop.
I can sweep super fast. I tried the 3X16 coil or what ever it's called. I didn't like it; the 7X9 is fast enough for me. HH

Mike,
I had a Golden Umax several years ago..traded it on my DeLeon(or was it the Tejon?). I still miss it from time to time. Although I have newer detectors I sometimes consider getting another Golden..but then I think of the interesting features I have in all my othr detectors (combined) and reckon that if I cant fill the gap with one of the ones I have, then it is my problem, not the detectors..doesn't stop me from wishing from time to time that I still had the Golden.

:rage: I knew this was gonna happen. I'd just gotten over my urge to get one- I figured, hey if Mike got tired of his, my Royal would do. So I emailed Tesoro and they told me that I probably couldn't get the notch set any narrower because of it's design. So, I started thinking about the Golden again, with lt's ED-120, and it's a/m mode WITH tones and then Mike reneges on me! I'm just gonna have to rethink this whole thing again.

Mike I know you like your F5, so what is it about the golden that gets you wanting another. I sold my golden and got the F5. I like the tones(freq. separation) and the notch better on the F5, the tones are more descriptive on the golden though. I think the golden has a little quicker response over multi targets, but not by much. Depth seems about equal depending how I set up the machine for the soil I'm hunting in, (stock coils both machines).

It is true that the F5 is my now favorite machine but there is no Cleansweep coil available for the F5.

I like running the Golden/Cleansweep combo for turf hunting clad, recovering high tones only. I don't necessarily like it for the lower conductive targets. I prefer some type of visual id along with the tones for the lower conductive targets, hence the F5.

I have sometimes pondered running a Golden and a Cortes together on a trigger switch box so that I could hunt with the Golden's tones and then when I got a lower conductive target I could pull the trigger and switch over to the Cortes and get a visual ID. The Cortes has a very accurate visual ID mode, especially in conjunction with the Sum feature.

For the moment I've located a Bigfoot coil for my DFX and I'm going to see if I can make that work like I want it. If not, I'll go back to a Golden.

I wish fisher would get a bigger con coil on the market too, would be great at the beach or coin shooting at the park.
