I don't like hunting parks, except for days like today!

I just replied yesterday to a post that parks aren't my favorite spots, maybe I was too hasty?

Today I went to hunt an old homesite that I hit maybe 6 years ago with my old machine, thought that maybe this 705 could show me something new. After arriving and finding that the county had turned that property into a water drainage project, there was nothing left to hunt. Disappointed, I headed back home, I only had about 2 hours to hunt anyway. I decided to hit this little community park a few miles from home that I can never seem to get in. This time of year the gate was locked, but it is near a parking lot where I launch my boat in the summer. I parked there and walked in, I had the whole place to myself!

There are 2 sets of swings, I started there at the first set. I found quarter after quarter, dime after dime, and then finally, a silver ring! The ring appears to be a ladies wedding band and is pretty heavy, it is either silver or white gold. The markings do not appear to be that of silver, I'll have Mapper65 take a look. I wondered over to the other set of swings, again, quarter after quarter, dime after dime, even a pocket dump with 3 dimes, a quarter, a nickel, and 2 pennies. Then I got a nice 40-42 hit and dug up at 1889 seated dime! I would have never in my wildest dreams expected to find that in this park!

I have only hit about 30% of the grounds, looking forward to hitting it again.

Grand total: 18 dimes, 15 quarters, 1 nickel, 9 pennies, 1 ring, all in 2 hours!

I guess parks aren't that bad after all!

That Seated is in nice shape!

If I had stuff like that in parks near here, you wouldn't be able to pry me out of them.

Nice looking seated! I'm like you parks aren't my favorite place to hunt. But as you found out they can surprise you! Congrats!!

And to think, he asked me to go with him and I didn't go.

I would have been a little surprised to find a merc in that park........but a seated!!

There must be some history there that we haven't taken into consideration.

PA, near Pittsburgh.

BTW, it was confirmeed by the markings inside that the ring is silver, nicest quality that I have found in a while.

This park warrants more research and another hunt.

Hunt #2 today, Mapper 65 and I went back to give it another going over. I now have to think that the seated dime was a fluke, we didn't find any other signs of an old homesite. We hunted for about 2 hours off an on until the skies opened up and rained us out.

Today's haul for me was 6 quarters, 6 dimes, 6 pennies, 2 Cub Scout slides. Mapper 65 had a handful of coins as well, but neither of us had a big payoff.

Congratulations on the seated coin. I have only found one seated coin ever and it was a 1877 quarter.

That is a very good find there.. you never know what you may find in a park or schoolyard for that matter.
Too bad the house site was removed... wonder what goodies were still there?
Congradulations!!

That is an excellent little seated lady. Congrats on recovering one of what I think is the most beautiful coins out there! HH Randy
