Has anyone had this problem , at least I think it's a problem.

When I turn the threshold knob I don't hear the buzzing noise , but when I pass the coil over coins, gold rings, alum. cans , I still hear the tones of the different metals , I just don't hear the buzzing like on the you tube video's. Is may detector working properly?

Again-try Disc, volume 3/4 to full, sens around 1 o'clock ,Disc 0/1 turn on and keep turning Clockwise (SLOWLY) till you hear threshold (DO NOT PASS THE STOP)

Hi Guys,

Crenman:-- I've had the threshold and volume both turned up , I usually keep the volume about 3/4 and the threshold between 10:00-2:00 o'clock and for testing up all the way. And still no buzzing .

Erikk:--I tried what your telling me, and this is what I hear:

I hear a chirp when I turn the threshold "on" and "sometimes" a little chirp as I'm slowly turning the threshold up ,but it's very quiet I don't hear the loud buzzing.

Also when I'm slowly turning the unit off just before I hear the click that it's off, I hear a loud buzz for about a Milli-second.

My battery is fully charged also.

The stock knobs on the Excals are prone to failure. The one on you sensitivity adjustment may just be spinning on the post instead of actually changing the threshold.

ZOFCHAK - you may be the winner !

I tried again doing what ,Neil in West Jersey and Yourself suggested and the volume knob just popped off in my hand there's a possibly that the threshold knob maybe defective also.

I take care of my electronics equipment ,it's what I do for a living , and I love my excal but for the price of this unit , this is the best quality you get for $1200.00 the inner stem is even thinner plastic, I'm surprise the knobs lasted this long. What happen to knobs with set screws in them to tighten down on to the "pot" shaft.

Thank you GUYS for all your help!!

I'm off to buy some new knobs.Hopefully that's all I'm buying.
