The DEC has been spilling water around the resevoir and down our little creek for around 3 months now. The result is a sludgy brown flow that will not freeze, therefore no ice fishin', therefore no yellow perch this winter. If any have survived the onslaught anyway. Funny part is they have a public meeting scheduled in March to see how their actions are affecting the community. March! Just when the ice should be melting. Their actions will probably also destroy the herring run, and the striped bass run, and the shad run. Your government at work. When I think of the high handed way the DEC treats some sportsmen over the most trivial things, and then how they are allowed to devestate an entire season of fishing.

One perch is a pretty small catch. Did you fry it up anyway? One of my favorite things to eat on a cold winter day.

Let me see if I've got this right - you go out in freezing cold weather, cut a hole in the ice, drop in a hook and wait for lunch to swim by. Is that about right? Don't forget to drive your pickup truck over all the thin spots in the ice. Bet we got at least 20 of those every winter. The authorities REALLY frown on sinking your SUV in the lake, not to mention that it's pretty expensive to salvage one.
