I did ok yesterday

Mark in S.E. IA

New member
started the day off by getting permission to hunt a woods where their use to be a church. The owner told me that a local guy has been out there a lot,,, oh great, just what I wanted to hear, lol. I spent a good 3 hours out there and found the 17s Merc, 1906 IH and a wheat. The local guy did pretty good because their was not much for signals out there.

After that I went to a park where I’ve did ok in the past and found the 2 other Merc’s, the 1929 Buff and 5 other wheat’s. 4 of the wheat’s was a pocket spill and that was a pin point nightmare. If you look close at the 39 Merc you can see the rust stains on it and it was a real crappy signal. I figured I was going to be digging another rusty nail but I got lucky that time, lol

This was the 5th time using the new Etrac and I feel so lost as to what I'm digging. I'm so use to using the xterra 505 for 9 years and pretty much knowing what I digging before I dig it. I'm sure I'll get that way with the Etrac but until then I'll have this lost feeling, lol

Thanks for lookin....

Mark,
You did Just Fine, I was out to you know where for 3-hours and nothing but Clad at 6-8" deep!
I got to the point I was digging trash just to have something to dig...
Even dug a Golf Ball at 3" deep next to a new penny! I spent three hours checking out the spots
we talked about on the phone and Nothing! I know there's more there but the Concentrated area's
that have "Original Old Ground" without the fill are just little spots you have to stumble on while
searching the well over 500,000 square feet that is there... The old ground is very dark brown and
the fill is lighter color...

Nice variety of coins Mark!
The fact that you are pulling Indians and Nickels also tells me you are doing great.
Those Etrac sounds will start to become second nature..

Very nice finds Mark. It's likely you'll not miss many good finds if your diggin' the "iffies" with the E-Trac. Thanks for the pictures.

Very nice !

Mark last time i tk to you i think you was useing that 505 and was killing it now i see your in the etrack wow look out silver iam sure after you get the e mastered you will love it its a coin hunting machine i was out saturday with mine i dont know what the deal is with it but it was all over the place so idid a reset on it didnt help much did get 2 silver rings no silver coins anyway this is my 3 rd season on the e and i still am trying to fig things out sometimes i just roll with it i think in the end your going to love it good luck this year

Nice finds Mark! Like you, I came over from an Xterra and struggled with confidence on the Etrac. Seems like you're doing petty well with yours though! My difficulty was trying to force the Etrac audio to act like the Xterra's . It doesn't. Once I came to grips that I had to learn to speak "trac", I started making better finds. Good luck and HH!

Thanks guy for the replies

Duggr, about the best thing I can tell you to do at that place that your hunting is to grid the whole place, I know it's a big place, lol. I've worked bigger places then that and grid every square foot of it over time.

Dave, I found the IH in the woods and I dig everything that beeps at places like that. When I saw the numbers I was hoping it was going to be a IH. The Buff I found at a park and I have noticed that nickels do seem to have a different tone to them.

Neb Trac, On the X505 I pretty much knew what was a good iffy signal and what was a bad one to past up. I have to learn that all over again with the Etrac and that's going to take some time...

pettit, I'm sure once I get on to the Etrac am going to really like it. To tell you the truth I like it now even tho I'm not really sure what I'm doing.

utmike, since you come from the Xterra to the Etrac you know more where I'm coming from,,,, " no confidence " in what I'm doing when hunting with the Etrac, lol. The audio is close to the Xterra but yet different. The ID numbers are easy to adjust to since they are only 3 or 4 numbers higher then on the Xterra.

You're doing alright with that eTRAC.

A couple years ago i dug up a merc that had a mixed coin/iron ID. The coin ID was fleeting at best. That dime also had rust stains on it because a small nail was just barely slightly on top of it. It was only a few inches deep, if it was beyond 10 inches deep its possible i might of not dug.

It really pays sometimes to dig those iffys. Way i look at it, even if most are junk its still a learning lesson.
