I DID MY GOOD DEED FOR THE BOY SCOUTS

I'm spending a few days at Myrtle Beach SC and was on the beach detecting just finding a silver turquoise anklet when a Boy Scout leader came up to me to ask for my help. Seems that one of the troop leaders lost his wedding band and had been looking for it for several hours along with over 300 Boy Scouts. They were holding their annual Myrtle Beach Beach Sweep and there were 38 troops camping here along with the Girl Scouts. When I got to their camping site it was already dark but being scouts they had flashlights to help me read my MXT. After digging over 30 pull tabs I got another hit by their coolers that showed "pull tab 5 cents or ring" about 5" deep in the sandy loom ground. I cut a small plug and put my Garrett pin-pointer in the hole and was getting a signal but couldn't see any thing but I had about 4 girl scouts on their hands and knees with much better eyes then my old eyes (73) and we got the worried scout masters ring. Of course he wanted to pay me but I refused telling his joy was payment enough, so they made me part of their Myrtle Beach Beach Sweep and gave me a Beach Sweep merit badge. I'll treasure this for ever.

A very good deed on your part.
A good ambassador for the hobby.
Congrats !

Good deed...great story Jim. Makes you wonder how many future detectorists you cultivated that night!

Jim, What a wonderful deed you did. That almost brought tears to my eyes. And to be presented with such an award! Beach Sweep merit badge.... so cool! YES, that's one you will keep forever and the memories will go down in history in your book. Thank you for making others know that there are good detectorists out there and we are willing to help the community. :clapping: A BIG pat on the back for you Jim. Thanks for sharing your wonderful story and HH, Nancy
