I DID IT

It took me 5 days to figure out what the heck I found. Here's the little coin. I had soaked it in white vinegar overnight, used a brass brush on it and then put some 3-N-ONE oil on it all these days. I could see the 1867 at the bottom and the 1/2 inside the circle , but couldn't make out the top. This morning I could make out the SKI??ING on the top. Thought it was a SHILLING. Did a Google search and came across the real coin and information on it. It's a 1867 Norwegian 1/2 skilling. I also have a picture of a better one that I copied off the net. Even though it's not worth anything, I still think it's cool. Gotta love this hobby! Thanks for looking and HH to all, Nancy

What do you mean it not worth much? It is very valuable! Think of how much you would have paid for that feeling you got when you first pulled out of the ground

I've got to agree with ribcrusher...
The feeling of the find is priceless..:clapping:
and to think that this little coin made it all the way from Norway in the 1860"s to 70"s is amazing!!!:super:
Great Find for sure:yo:

Great job girl.. It's a great feeling when you find anyhing and more exciting when it has a latter-date on it.. Infact you might say it's priceless since you found it.. Good going. Cliff :detecting: :clapping:

Thanks Herm, Yes, it would be fine for any wheat/Indian cent that wasn't a "key" date. You wouldn't want to ruin it anymore. White vinegar will pit coins if left too long. I left mine over night. I have a buffalo nickel that was really nasty and that too was soaked in white vinegar. I soaked it for a few days. Then brushed it with a brass brush. It brings the details out. Don't forget the[attachment 140177 3inOneOil.jpg]

Thanks everyone. When I said, "It not worth anything". I meant in monetary value. You're right, it's priceless and it's in my book of finds. I've got it carded and dated. It will be great to go back a few years from now and look at it. Hopefully generations down will enjoy it too. Thanks again and HH, Nancy

Nancy,
