I decided to buy today my choice was>>>>>>>>

DFX-Gregg

The Dfx, ordered will be here in Chicago on Wednesday. Hopefully I can get in 10-15 trips before ground freezes here. Some may say the xlt is the same. This is not true. I spoke directly to a White's technician models are very similar but the duel frequencies give the dfx an impressive edge that allows for better more defined detection. He also said when asked about spending the extra $200, that is up to you, do you want to find what the others are leaving behind...>>>DFX I also asked about the coils, he said to go with the 5.3, over the 4x6. I will post after i use, if I don't freeze to death! Thanks for everyone's help, Gregg.

Seems like the DFX is a love or hate machine with a learning curve and many do well with it..Anybody in the club have one so he can give you some tips...As far as the XLT goes probably the biggest seller over the last 13 years for Whites and certainly a proven winner...and still going strong...

They were right about the 5.3 Eclipse coil being the better choice, to be sure.

However, I disagree about the DFX being better than the XLT. I've hunted with a DFX over the same ground I hunted with an XLT and it didn't do anything to impress me. I have done the reverse, however, which is (only) one reason why I prefer the XLT.

Still, put in the time to learn and master the DFX. I wish you well.

Thanks Dan and I could really use some tips as you suggested, so if anyone has any please let me know.

I spoke directly with a technician at the factory, (541)367-6121. I know one thing for sure, there is only positive differences and hopefully some of you in here will help once I get the machine. I was also told the machine has a better operating system due to the filtering and added discrimination of the duel frequencies. Monte, I am sure you have had great success with your XLT, and hopefully you will be able to help me once I have questions with the DFX. I was told the operating systems are much the same, only with added features to the DFX. And not having been out for so long (20 years)I am sure I will have quite a few, especially next year when it warms up here.

I messed that post up, here is what I meant to say. If you ever have an opportunity to detect around wet salt beaches, you made a wise choice. Gregg, I hope you also took advantage of the White's Christmas Specials.

I will I am looking at the 5.3, heard it should work a little better than 4x6 for me, thanks. Do xmas bucks come when I get detector next week?

Yes, the DFX does have some features not found on the XLT. As Dave mentioned, the DFX might provide a little better performance at the beach (salty beach that is).

You are also correct that I have enjoyed a lot of success with the XLT. Heck,. I have owned enough of them since they were released in early 1994, but the DFX is the newer model. The XLT is likely to be dropped before the DFX. It was based on the XLT so it should provide you with favorable performance. perhaps the DFX's I have owned just weren't working up to par? ;)

As you learn your new DFX I suggest you try all the factory modes, but especially spend time using the factory Relic program. Then, learn each function choice or adjustment one at a time until you're comfortable that you understand the strength or weakness there is to using it or to over adjusting it. Then, when you're ready, develop your own custom program. Just remember not to get too radical in the adjustments or you can have a negative impact on performance.

You'll find that once you mount that 5.3 Eclipse coil, it is going to probably stay mounted for the majority of all your coin and relic hunting activities. It's an excellent pick.

Happy White's Swinging! :)

About the shopper bucks, the Whites website says that special is available at local dealers. I would call White's to make certain. I only knew about it because I talked to a dealer over the phone, that's why I mentioned it to you.
