I have 10+ hours on mine and so far am finding it a hard one to love. After another 20, I MIGHT like it better. Don't see any real use for the coin or jewelry modes and have taken to hanging with the all metal mode so I can see what is going on. I like the numerical readout and the tones are OK but it is a busy one and I have to pay a lot of attention to the number plays on the small screen. Mostly I give it easy stuff like clad hunting for practice. The pressure plates and menu system are pretty abominable. The Ace 250 controls system is vastly better. I would have dumped it already but from the testimony of people smarter than me - I infer that I will eventually see something really good about it. I'm still looking.

Hi Silvernail,

Try to stick with the Edge and give yourself time to adapt to the quick recovery/response time. The Edge sees a lot of targets because of the quick recovery and admittedly seems busy compared to other detectors. The tones help a lot on the Edge (be glad you did not pick the C$ ;)) that one really takes time to get used to especially if you are coming from some of the older analog designs!

In the end you have to use what works for you so don't feel bad if the Edge is not the one.

I have found that after using mine for the last 7 months that it is a very capable detector i have had to send it in for repairs (Took two weeks to have it back in my hands working so that was fast turn around on fishers part)THANKS FISHER, Its very sen. to small metal here in Michigan i set it to 6,GB it then set it up higher to 8 or 9 with good results.
I've found shoe string holes from tennis shoes at 3 to 4 inch's .
the number id is really good on coins, but hard to id rings and such,
I have used it in the water as a wading detector with great results'
the depth reading is sometimes off on the small things i find but coins its right on thanks for reading the post and let me know how your EDGE IS WORKING

I know for me it took about 40-50 hours before I really started understanding the Coinstrike. When I first got in I wanted to wrap it around a tree for the first 10-15 hours or so, then after about 25 hours I started understanding what it was telling me a little better and started feeling a little better towards it. It's now my favorite detector.

Hi Deerman,

I don't know if that GB'ing at a low sensitivity setting then increasing it afterwards has an effect on the response to small stuff but, in my lakes it is awesome on small targets when set up that way. Deep small targets that will bounce iron/foil on the X70 are solid foil hits with the Edge! Gotta love this detector! Fisher / FT would do well by waterproofing the Edge to make a fresh water wading detector. It is hot on small stuff and handles iron nicely, which is the bane of fresh water hunters. As long as I'm wishing, a waterproof cable connector for switching to the small coil when needed would be nice also!

you must hunt the same type sites I do. You really have to work at it with the X70 to even come close to the kind of finds the Edge makes with seeming ease. When it takes that much "work" to get any kind of results its no fun.

it has a small coil stuck to it and I can't get it off. Talk about sensitive to small items, if you haven't tried the small coil you have to give it a go, great fun, and Mr. Bill will take care of you. In my region we are supposed to be in winter lake draw down time, but it has rained so much that even with the dams open the lakes are still at summer level.

That small coil and I have some dates with some iron ridden beaches once I can get to them, come on Noah give us a break!:ranting:

your right there too i went back to a football field that i hit hard with a whites and large coil with the edge and found over 5.00 in clad in a little under an hour so i know i.ll be back at it again

Hi Everyone

I have about 20+ hours on my edge. I use it with the 5.5 loop most of the time. With the 5 inch coil I am able to take coins up to 5 inches. It handles iron and trash with ease. I went to a site a couple of nights ago with another (top of the line) brand of detector and attempted to hunt a mineralized/iron /trash infested lake bed. The machine went crazy no matter what adjustments I made. I then went to the truck and grabbed the Edge with the 5.5 and proceeded to clean the site out. Pulled a nice Victorian silver ring and a 1889 I.H. It gets the job done with no fuss or interference! I run it at 9 sens and knock out every thing under +5. It's a great detector in my opinion.

one of the main reasons i had to try an edge is the couple of reviews i read on it(bill ladd was one) said it performed ok on the beach, including wetsand, which i found out to be total pants :(..now it may be ok on freshwater beaches, but it aint no cz on saltwater beaches,in fact, only one machine i have ever used on the beach(and ive tried many) that performs worse is the whites xlt..i have never/ever! managed to get a ground balance on the beach, including as i just walked onto the sand! (it does ok in the fluffy stuff, like every other single freq. machine, buts thats where it should stay)..now i thought it might be my machine, but using 3 other machines and same results:( .. now our beaches are close to florida type beaches,so that aint good!..BUT its killer on the land (where i can get a gb in every type of land i try, which makes me wonder why i cant get a gb at the beach????

edit:) i see many ppl say that the edge performs better than an xt 70, and on land, i totally agree! on the beach, the edge up against an xt 70 and 5x10 dd coil isnt in the same league, pure and simple...

another edit..the gb attempts on the ultra dry sand with the edge were done using auto gb,but hell,if the edge cant auto gb at the edge :) of the beach, where every other single frequency machine i take(including the xlt) can auto gb,and machines like the ace 250 can run at max sens with no falsing,i aint gonna bother manual or auto ground balance with the edge, why waste time? dont get me wrong,i still find clad on the beach with the edge, but its a horrible experience with continual falsing and not knowing if you got some sort of ground balance :(
