Went for a solo spin last night with the Excal, into a 950P -0.3L and NE winds at 5-10. Was in the water by 9P and headed for the mine and set my buoy, when I signalled the 1st target. Was in the chest to neck zone this evening again. Target density was real righteous tonight, so I felt good about being in the gold zone. Total clad count was fair, at $1.97.

Targets of interest were a copper hoop earring, a junk brass/copper heart smiley ring deal, what appears to be a 100 YEN coin? Cleaned it up and it looks silver and there is no copper clad stripe like our clad coins have. It has a 52 printed on it too and do not know the significance of this. May ask Ian on Depot and see what he thinks.

What appears to be a brass ship's spike? bda, this should get you excited!

The I-D BIDY, is a SZ 2 14K baby ring and it's the smallest gold ring I have ever found! I like it and I was glad to see it!

Probably would have stayed longer, but was getting the death squeal and things were not popping as quickly, so I packed it in at 2A. Kinda dissappointing, since my charge was more than adequate for a 5 hour hunt? May take tonight off, but maybe not!

I would polish up the spike , and it would be one of my cherished treasures. I can imagine the cannon ball piercing the side of the Gold ladened ship and the splinters and nails flying in all directions. Now GH go find the rest of the gold that comes with it. I also like the tiny ring. HH

Bermuda is famous for her shipwrecks, even the original colonists wrecked here (they were bound for Virginia originally). Due to all the wrecks you get a lot of wreck debris in these waters, expecially copper nails, ship spikes and copper sheathing which floats ashore in the wooden debris of a wreck. Unless the spike is a really good specimen it goes in the junk barrel. Cannonballs are a different story and a pirates mind turns to fantasies of days gone bye.
Nice little ring, though.

Cheers,

I have 2 Excal batteries........one after a year is just about worthless and will not hold a charge or be useable for more than an hour. The other is good for about 5-6 hours. I always go down to the death squeal before charging. I have been looking for replacement battery packs for the one that has just about died maybe a NiMH instead. I do have the AA pod just in case when I am out hunting. J-man has an old NiMH battery from SunRay and that gets about 30 hours before a charge is needed.

Don't know Bobbie, but Minelab will warranty it, if it is not holding a sufficient charge. My last pod was working fine and they said it needed to be replaced, last time in. Put a new one on and it loses charge after a 5 hour hunt? It had charged all night too! May send it in, when duck season starts, we'll see! You never know, I may break it soon! GH

I've spent a weekend dredging, slucing, and panning for gold..and didn't come with that much..

Nice ticket.. GH

Could it be that they're JUNK! Change out those garbage NiCads for some NiMH replacement batteries from Batteries Plus. Oh Yeah, almost forgot, get a decent charger like the Battery Tender Jr. because the stock charger from Minelab is a battery burner. I changed mine up last year and no problems, period, full stop. 14 hrs. plus on the NiMH and no battery charge memory problems.
The Excal is a great machine but like all equipment it has it's faults.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:

PS: Thanks again to V.A. Beach Ron for helping this Bermuda Pirate out by hooking me up with some decent batteries and a decent charger.
