Got one lined up for purchase when the seller returns on Thursday... I hate waiting but am excited to own this machine. :) After experimenting with a few other brands I'm positive this machine is the one I "NEED" ;) in my collection. :) I'll keep you updated. Hope everyone has a great holiday!

You're going to love it , I'm really enjoying mine .Since I last posted I've had a couple of more short hunts with it and have been very happy with its performance . I'm still having camera/computer compatibility problems otherwise I'd be posting some pictures . I'm actually starting to hear the real obvious tonal clues . I don't think I will ever achieve Jedi status with it but I can see myself making some nice finds . Awesome recovery speed . I can't believe some of the tiny stuff I have found and that's with the stock coil . Mine was a Birthday/Christmas present to myself . Merry Christmas !

Sounds like a winner :) Cant wait to see your finds. Merry Xmas to you as well

The Vaquero is a great detector. You are gonna like how smoothe and quiet it operates.
Very deep on tiny targets, but does like iron... especially supertuned.
Make sure to get the 5.75" concentric coil for the V. It's almost as deep as the stock coil and picks through the trash great.
Make sure to use a good set of headphones also. Killer B's worked great on my Vaquero......HH.

Got it today for a steal $275 brand new with warranty card also it noted on box it had tone upgrade to the higher tones havent had much hunt time so far but learned to ground balance it easily, found about .35 in an hour quarter nickel and some pennies on a baseball field.

I ordered mine with the high tone and liked it fine until I got a Compadre and soon enough I decided I liked the Tesoro lower tone units better.
I need to send mine in for a tune up and talking to the tech found out it would only be $15 to change it.
Great, I thought, that high tone is really starting to annoy me, especially in the high end when I run over can slaw or other high tone trash.
I can tell those targets are trash just about 100% of the time instantly because that sound just grates on my nerves big time.
Then after thinking about it I then thought, wait a minute, that annoying sound I hear every time I roll over a piece of aluminum might be lost if I change to a lower tone.
Probably will be lost, as a matter of fact.
There are other ways to figure out this sort of trash with the low tones, but not anywhere near as fast.
The way it is now, when I wince, it's trash, and it has been that way on every target I ever dug when I heard that sound.
Used to dig, that is, I don't dig them anymore because I know that sound better than I know my own name.
Just wait till you run over those type of targets and listen for that difference between that and good high tone targets.
It is unmistakable and a real advantage we high tone owners have over the lowboys.
You'll see.

I wish I could explain the difference in tones on this high tone garbage but it is difficult.
The best way to describe it is it is a "tinny" sound, and nothing like the richer, fuller sound you would hear over a zinc penny or a dime or quarter.
I still dig some of these targets once in awhile just to check and like I said every time I do it has always been a piece of trash...every time in the 4 years I have used my Vaq.

Also I would like to tell you that I have found many gold rings with my Compadre and my Vaq and the smaller ones in the foil and nickel and tab sections are a beautiful sound but not very different from other good targets like coins.

Now if you roll over something large like a gold class ring that will be in the zinc area at the 3:00 position, something I have done with both the Compadre and the Vaq, it is a sweet, beautiful, long, full and rich sound like the highest quality bell you have ever heard on both, but on the Vaq that particular sound will actually rock you back on your heels because it is so much louder and different than any other you will probably ever hear in your life.
That is my holy grail tone that I listen for on every hunt when I pull out the Vaq.
It is so unique and addicting that I want to hear it over and over again although it is the rarest of the rare.

I hope you find one of these one day and see what I am talking about.
With your track record on gold rings it will probably be sooner than later.

Thanks again for the tips, I have one gold ring handy I will experiment with and maybe grab some slaw to try to test waht you have told me to familiarize myself with it :) Im going out today for a few hours.

The Vaq is a good addition to your stable. Once you learn it, I think you'll be very satisfied. I, personally, prefer the high tone, but that's just me. I don't think there's a right or wrong on tone choice.
