That the weight of the detector will not work for me. Found a few colonial buttons and some clad today but the pain I'm feeling in my back took all the fun out of to days hunt. Will need to trade for a certain "frenchie" LOL
I just adjust the shaft in some to balance the the larger coils, and out to balance the 6" coil. That works real well for me. I don't have to switch arms with the CTX like I did with the E-Trac or XS.........May not work for all, but does for me..........HH
due to the weight. Back in the 70's , most machines weighed 5-6 lbs. My arm can no longer handle the weight. Too bad, it looks like an interesting detector. Maybe they will come out with a lighter land version. The frenchie is attractive to me , because of the lack of weight . HH
Finances at the time forced the sale. Years of detecting with heavy detectors wore me out. Its only a health issue. Nothing more. I do hope Minelab has a tall man shaft.
I made a cheap but VERY easy to use bungee carrier for mine,,,,, it makes the CTX like swinging a feather,,,,, weight is not a good reason to put the CTX down if you like the md,,, but I'm glad to see more people stop using them,,,, means more for me to find !!!! LOL
I was surprised how heavy the CTX was coming from a Compadre, but I haven't had any issues with it because it balances well. I'm only 30 though so if I'm having trouble swinging this at my age then it's time to hit the gym...
I have been swinging since 69 lot's of 5 pound detectors the ctx is heavy but swings good for me the exp 2 that's a differant story 1 hour and it was rest time.I still feel it swinging the ctx but can go all day.
Woodchiphustler, Sorry to hear that the CT is giving your back problems. I have serious back problems also, but the CT has been a relief for me compared to my other detectors. I read the post on this forum for over a month or so, before selling my DEX 300 and buying the CT 3030. I still have other detectors as a back up in an emergency but I don't think that I will ever be satisfied with anything less than the CT from now on. I broke my lower back 10 years ago and had to use a swing thingy and harness with other detectors, but the CT is so well balanced that I no longer need the assistance and I am finding targets that I missed with the others. I also love the wireless headphone module, allowing me more freedom while digging. Being waterproof, It is also ready for the beaches of FL, when I go there If you like everything else about the CT except for the back problem, you might want to try attaching Doc's Swingy Thingy to it and see if that helps with the problem. I still have mine attached to my back up detector, but no long need it with the CT. I hope that you can find some relief and are able to keep it if you can. I know what it is like to try and hunt with back pain. Good luck.
