I broke my Stanley.............

Broke my coin popping tool (Stanley screwdriver) trying to pry out a whole aluminium can at Ring:drinking:ley Field last night after supper......third time this year..........you would think I would learn:rofl:

Found a Kentucky Rolex , NO RINGS, $4.84 in clad, and the usual junk........some of which was sharp, so be careful what you grab, some of those VDI's are SHARP, I've dug a pouch full of those broken beer bottles with the tops still attached this year.

This was my fourth hunt on Ring:drinking:ley Field and it has now been covered once, probably have 7-8 hours into it. I left numerous deeper/questionable targets for the second round of future hunting when digging conditions get a tad bit better.

So sorry to hear about your screw driver. A loss like that is devastating. And it has happened 3X. Gad how can you handle that????
QH why don't you go to Sears and buy a Craftman screw driver. They are for life. Just bring it back. No receipt needed. That is what they tell me.
Nice detecting.......Z

That looks like you did a lot of digging. Nice finds.<p>You should of been using a Craftsman.

You won't break this gasket scraper from O'reilly's Auto Parts. Round the corners up and start popping.

That is because everyone is buying screw drivers and bringing them back broken...:rage:......Z

I keep hearing about the screwdriver method...does anyone have a good video demonstration? I would try it, but how do you get the deep coins...and aren't you afraid of scratching a nice coin in the process? I'm Curious.

Sorry to hear you broke your favourite tool, that sucks! Looks like it worked hard for you!

Johnny here's two video's that will give you the idea, I use a similar method utilizing the Garrett ProPointer, works great in parks and ball fields and manicured lawns when you master it. It really cuts down the time it takes to retrieve a shallow target too.

On most ball fields, most of the targets are what I call shallow, under 5 inches, 95% of my targets are . If they are 2 inches or less you can actually know exactly where the coin is, and insert the screwdriver under the edge of the coin by the sound of the ProPointer. If the target is deeper and the ProPointer doesn't pick them up from the surface I will split the turf with the screwdriver after determining the target is immediately in front of my coil and insert the ProPointer as a prob to ascertain the coins location. One has to become one with his ProPointer prob to master this technique......
I've dug thousands of coins this way, and it works for me!!

If there was any concerns about scratching old coins, then use discretion, but how many old coins have you dug on a sports field that was developed in 1972?

Oh, QH one of great wisdom. If I become one with the Pro Pointer will I be able to shut it off? I don't want to be a Pro Pointer all my life??? :clapping:
Johnny here is another one

I would have never thought it possible to break a screwdriver like that, yet the same thing happened to me a month or so ago...and fellas, when you get good with a screwdriver, you better have a backup, or you might just as well go home!

And that is exactly where we went too! Quarterhorse had a larger diameter screwdriver in his truck, BUT he says it doesn't have the sensitivity as the thin round one and refuses to use it.

I was hot, 1/4 Hoss was hot, the field was covered so we went to the house.

A good time was had by all 'cept Miss Stanley. Quarterhorse snapped her neck like Jean-Claude Van Damme..

Zeek I see you're home watching video's, who's running the Zinc and Jewelery Mine? LOL

Thanks for the videos and info Quarterhorse. You're right, I have never hunted a newer sports field...or any sports field for that matter lol!

My heavens QH you should not be going around telling everyone you broke your Stanley!!! Isn't that kind of personal? I guess when you are used to your Stanley another just won't do....
Also I noticed that when some of us get a little older we become more cantankerous and down right unfriendly. So our mind develop imaginary friends to cope with the loss of real friends. Hi!!! Blackie nice to meet you. OK, OK you know I am only kidding......
My zinc and jewelry mine is doing just fine. Every time I go out there it seems as though the fairies of coins and jewelry seem to fill fields with more. Isn't this hobby great??
That is some nice detecting and finds QH. Good work.......Z
