I bought a daul chicago tumbler from harbor freight. What do i need to clesns coins and how long what liquids and stuff need imformation on how to use it on vaious items Thanks

Wash pennies with pennies. The other clad can be washed together.

Don't add salt and vinegar to the mixture....it will blow the drums apart.

However, ther are so many recipies for washing coins, that I will just give you the most simple and basic one. This is for clad only!

WATER + DISH SOAP + CUP OF AQUARIUM GRAVOL + ABOUT 1 - 2 HOURS OF TUMBLING = NICE LOOKING CLAD.

(recycle gravel)

I use John's recipe - about 1/3 gravel, about 1/3 coins, just cover with water and add one squirt of dish soap. Hope that helps.

Good info. What do you use to clean silver coins? Can they still be done in a tuimbler? (assuming they just need to be cleaned up - not going to be sold)
Thanks in advance,

Well, I'm assuming that you are not getting silver coins by the handful, so try soap & toothbrush, toothpaste & toothbrush, baking soda & toothbrush. For stained silver coins try soaking in a mixture of about 30% vinegar/70% water for 3-4 hours, then.....using your thumb, rub some toothpaste on the coin. If the coin has a layer of black crust, you will need to try electrolysis.

Only trouble I have is with those Stinkin' Rotten Zinkers!! Something about them makes the top blow off my Lortone tumbler in the first 30 mins. I have to stop the tumbler and release the pressure. Keep an eye out for it as it makes quite a mess if it blows.

Ok, sounds like a Catch 22. How does one tell which coins are Zinkers, when one needs to clean them off to tell if they are Zinkers????

I use aquarium gravel, small amount of concentrated cleaner, and throw in a half of a brillo pad. Let them tumble overnight and they come out like new.

Thanks. Thant's the first I'd heard about adding a Brillo pad. Cool idea.
