:pulltab: Okay i took the plunge and bought a new DFX. Ive used it for a couple days and all i seem to find is pull tabs and pop cans. when i put coins on the ground to try it out it seems to jump around some from nails to the coin more on the coin. i went to a spot where I'm sure there is coins but found nothing. i am using the factory settings right now. can someone give me some pointers? do i need to just get more familiar with it? it does seem like it will be an awesome machine. thanks, Mike

If you Are finding pull tabs than you are doing something right. Try putting the coins IN the ground like 3" deep and see how it does, use an area that isn't cluttered with junk. The Icons indicate what is possible, but users often turn them off and learn the VDI numbers instead. Testing Coins that you bury lets you be sure that you are setting the ground balance correctly. The DFX users forum Is a good place to go too.

I bought a new DFX about 5 yrs ago. It had me confused but hopeful for the first 6 momths.
Then one day it all seemed to fall into place. This was the first year i was able to submit the
find of the year to Western & Eastern Treasure Magazine. It was a (1) carat platinum diamond
ring worth $2100. Since then I find an average of 10,000 coins and about 25 silver and gold rings
a year.

Thebeatmachine brought up a good point that I forgot to mention in your PM.........ground balance. It is a good idea to always ground balance twice Mike, back to back. After your first GB, check your area to make sure you are not over some metal and if you are in clean ground, GB again. The DFX seems to be more stable after a double GB.

Biggest piece of advise on the DFX is work with the presets first and get the machines basic behavior down. Find a place close to home for use as your "Schooling Ground" and dig all types of signals. That experience will benefit you immensely. So many folks get out there and think they have to learn it all quick and hunt with the feeling that they are missing the good stuff because their machine isn't adjusted right. (If your hunting techniques are textbook, you'll be getting most of it.) Most of us can tell you that the presets are perfect for the first while, and they'll serve you well. Things "click" in stages and before long, the basic adjustments will be there for ya' to mess with. Out of the box you've purchased the fastest responding and smoothest machine on the market.(Not at all dissing other top machines as they have there own strengths that kick butt.) Enjoy!!!

Thanks everyone, i have took all of your advice and it seems to be working. i was out yesterday and found several Penny's. one being a 1905. i only had about 30 min to hunt so I'm going back today or tomorrow to try again. thanks for all your help, Mike

Okay, I've looked for the DFX Classroom and DFX forum, and so far, have found neither. Where are these two forums? Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. Thanks. Dale

Where abouts in Mo are you? Me and a buddy are planning a trip at the end of march (we both hunt with DFX's) and would be glad to share some tips and maybe you could share some spots.
