This is a Chelmsford Ginger Ale bottle in the root of the tree. The tree grew around the bottle, and here it sits. I had to have it, so I cut the tree down. I am going to cut the trunk down more and make it so you can display it. Anyone interested?
Actually, I have. As a kid, there was one inside a hole in a tree in front of my great-grandmother's house put there by an uncle many years before & the tree had grown around it so that only a hole appeared. At first it was an oval hole about 6" X 4" & the bottle was a very nice painted label soda from the early 50's, can't remember the name but something obscure. At first I tried hard to get it out, but to no avail. My cousins & I later made a game of it & took turns throwing rocks at it from her porch (about 30 feet away) for the next 11 years or so as it slowly closed around it. Someone hit it once but it didn't break. I don't think anyone ever broke the bottle, not even on purpose & I believe it is still there today. This has made me want to go check & see just out of curiosity. I hope the tree is still there. Thanks for the article.
Right up the street from me there is and old tractor with a tree that grew right around the steel rear wheel. I will take a pic and post it next time I remember. Its on the side of the road and the home owner is using it as a landscaped decor.
