I am sure loving being retired. Lots of time for "stuff" I've had to put off for years. Now starting to plan second trip to Florida in about 6 weeks..

I'm heading down to raid the treasure coast vaults at SOBE, etc. I haven't seen the guys down there for almost two years now.

Good luck down there Bottomfeeder, it may be time for me to start thinkin about it too, boss told me thursday I need an attitude adjustment when I didn't jump up and down happily when he asked if I would work 8 hours overtime friday, really don't wnat/need them 56 hour weeks anymore, should be more like you and get all those things done I have been puttin off cause of workin 6 days a week!

Yes, I did give in but I keep tellin him..... one of these days!

First thing anyone wanting to retire has to realize is that check stops the day you do. That stops most people right there, doesn't need to though.
I had numerous chances to get in on 401k plans, investments, etc.
Thats fine for those who can give up control of their savings to strangers, but I am very uncomfortable with that idea.
if my money is going down the drain, I at least want to be the guy who pulled the plug, not some hot shot "investment expert" who's former work resume includes assistant manager at a 7-11.
I put all I could into rental houses back in the 80's when they were virtually giving homes away. ( I think they got them from some of those poor investment losers ).
Secondly, get out of debt. I worked almost every day the last two years, and used all the overtime money to pay off my remodeling loan, and the one ton pickup I bought to pull our fifth wheel with.
I went into retirement owing only a monthly payment on our trailer.
Everything else is paid off.
Don't have a ton of money in the bank, but I have my rental income every month from three houses that are also paid for.
I am blessed with good general health, and I have excellent health insurance for my wife and I for the rest of our lives (knock on wood).

So, if you can reach a point where you can live on what you will have coming in monthly, and, not eat up your savings steadily, I see no reason not to go back there and tell the boss HE needs an attitude adjustment.
Good luck with retiring, if thats what you want. You don't need all the money in the world to do it.
Also, don't let someone elses 'fears" keep you from going when you know its right for you. Live your life while you can. See you out there in the sunshine. !!

I am in my 14th year of retirement and still cannot find enough time to do all the things THAT I LIKE.I Hunt, rifle and bow, fish, metal detect, make walking sticks for the members of the sportsman club I belong to,have great fun with the grand kids, stay on the politicians so they don't screw the working class, etc. No I didn't work for pay at any time in my retirement. There is an old saying:Make your bed the way you want to sleep in it.I DID.
