I think lead soldiers date to WW1, You were playing with what is now valuable, hope they didn't get broken. Ive only dug 1 of those and it was in 3 pieces(it was a hollow casting).
 
Orig with paint about $10 each or more, depends on style (infrantry,medic,navy,army etc). Replicas in tin & led are still available and a bit pricy.
