They tell me 100 hrs on the machine min. She is a coin hunting machine. I need to advance but I just can't get the sounds down on PRO COIN.

Me either, get real confused at what the AT is telling me in pro mode, but I will keep trying

Just dig all the good sounding targets, where they sound good running the coil over them in all 4 directions. The repeating scenarios of good targets will eventually make sense. It's like learning a new musical instrument,

thanks for the tip, going to try it out

Man, I am in lots of trouble if that is the case :) Took me long enough to learn the one I play

I have been working with my new AT pro AND a new E-trac.
Talk about confusion!
Yesterday I ran the E-Trac til the battery quit, then switched to the Pro.
I was all balled up for a little while until my mind "reset" itself to the Pro mode.
Found a nice handful of coins including the honey hole with 6 old pennies lumped together.
Just go to Pro, 35-40 iron, and I like to leave just the nickel in and knock out everything up to the penny .
I dig all the 52-53-54 signals, and coins.
I leave the iron and foil for the next guy. (Don't want to be greedy) :lol

It is NOT vital to have iron audio on all the time. whatever your ear prefers is fine. Happy hunting!

I am new to the At Pro as well but I have a test garden and what I did was find the targets in STD mode and notice the depth and then switch over to PRO mode and hear what that type and depth of coin sounds like in PRO mode. If you have access to a test garden it really helps. -- Randy

Is the standard mode essentially how the ACE series work ?

I guess I don't see the value in the standard mode, I'm thinking they put it there to help all the ACE folks transition from the ACE to the Pro mode of the AT

Kind of, maybe, sort of...... I mean the standard mode has a ton of advantages over an Ace 250. Ground balance, 40 points of iron discrimination, iron audio, water proof, dd coil. At first look you might think your not getting anything than an Ace 250 in standard mode. But there's no comparison. I personally use the pro mode. It's not that I don't like the standard mode. I just haven't used it.

I don't mean feature wise, heck the VDI# alone is a huge leap forward over an ACE. But the audio itself in standard mode is identical to the audio on an ACE right?

I picked up an AT Pro last weekend, so I'm hoping to learn as much about it as I can before hitting the dirt with it (unfortunately I won't have an opportunity until April). I don't see a need to try to learn it in standard mode, and then relearn it in pro mode. Being that the pro audio is one of this detectors greatest strengths, might as well bite the bullet and start with pro mode

My opinions is. It's called an ATpro so use the Pro mode. It's not called an ATstd. I love the PRO mode, tones, features - you name it.... But in the end use whatever mode you like. Just have some fun...

Adamant I haven't used Std mode yet.
I had the same trouble with the F70 when I got it. It took me sometime to get the hang of the crisp, solid sound. I just didn't hear the solid sound.
I went into the tot lots and worked with the shallow targets and something happened. I started to notice the solid/crisp sounds. When I think of it now I don't know how I didn't hear those clean solid sounds? Maybe this will help??? HH and Happy Trails....Z

Something I noticed today is the coins have a softer Hi Tone, than say a louder hi tone for aluminum cans, pop tops, and other trash. I usually ground balance my machine, put her in pro zero, discriminate 35 segments of iron, and finally I turn my headphones down (this makes me listen harder.) I have only hunted with my machine about 3 weeks but I have already replaced the batteries. I moved up from the Ace 250. I really like the PRO mode. It has reduced the amount of pop tops I've dug. The softer hi tones usually produce a coin. Loud hi tones with blips before or after usually indicate a pop top or other trash.

I've covered an area in standard, dug about 20 quartes and 18 dimes, then went in pro mode, founf a dozen more quarters and 15 dimes,BUT when I checked in standard, standard still hit 'em

Going back to this... as far as the whole STD 250 thing (are they close to the same thing)? I agree with khouse. Other than you swing them both and the tones are kind of close (I think that the tones are wider or longer on the pro in std mode than the 250). Standard mode is much better than a 250. I like zero mode the best. for me its an easy audible id. Its good to hear all the different ideas.

Thanks for the tips Emmit. I'm looking forward to testing this machine out!

The whole machine was confusing to me at first. I decided to go for broke and learn it or lose it
in PRO mode. I'm getting to where I pluck coins from really trashy areas now. It's been a lot of fun learning it.
