Folks,

Life and other complications have conspired to seriously limit my time out with my new machine but I have had a chance to hit a Confederate Camp near Gettysburg for a few visits and have found some fun items:

Top Row - Civil War bullets (L-R)

7: deformed .31 cal buckshot

2nd Row - brass items
1: CS coat sized button back with hand spun cotton thread still attached
2: outer ring from CS Staff button
3: silver plated scallop shaped flat button with shank, period unknown
4. Civil War Kepi buckle
5. Civil War tent grommet

3rd Row - two pewter spoons

4th row - Coins (L-R)
1: 1955 Wheat
2-3: mid 1950s nickels eaten up by fertilizer
4: 1911 Barber Dime
5: 1900 Barber Half

5th Row
1: half of a roller buckle - knapsack size
2-3: melted bullets (camp lead)

Sweet diggin with limited time. You made good use of your time

Great finds Tom. Question for you: What TID #'s do the top row items generally hit at?? Thanks in advance Tom.

tonym,

Lead seems to come in at 12-32 to 14-38 with the CO number getting higher as the caliber increases. I have only seen .577/.58 conical balls. My bud got a .69 at a recent dig but it was a really odd signal.

Two of us use the CTX together when relic hunting and have seen that the machine has a little trouble with round balls. Very iffy signals and erratic TIDs. Cal doesn't matter, just happens with round balls. Conical balls sing out with a very pretty tone in ferrous 35 but round balls sound scratchy.

Hope this helps,
TomH

Nice group of finds Tom - and interesting presentation to boot!
