Every location is a lesson on how to use your metal detector. In the clay soil here in W.V. the large pop tab can read as foil on the Ace. I have always had it read as pop tab in Fl

John,
Welcome to the world of dirt diggers. I to can get a square tab from nickel to zinc. Sometimes my nickels bounce from high foil to tab. I'm in central Missouri and my soil is rich and black here. It seems like the midrange targets can be iffy. A solid zinc and higher will really bang out loud. I sometimes think it's a piece of aluminum at the surface. I dig down 5 inches and there's a dime. I can't believe how hard a high coin hits on the 250. Now you have trade your scoop for a knife. You will find a lot less girls in bikini's out in the park as apposed to the beach. That must really be sad.
PS, I have found that the sniper ID's a little better so I have been leaving it on. It goes plenty deep for me. I think maybe a 5.75 to 6 inch concentric coil would be nice. Something between the sniper and stock coil.

Great looking location from my end anyways. A metal detector only goes as deep and only ID's targets at any given time depending on the location. Looks like you are well on your way judging from that "32 & 42" Wheat you got.

Yeah that Virginia clay is a bugger. I think I smell some silver in those spots you photographed. Did you try running your sensitivity low?

Yes, I lowered the sensitivity. In Fl. I would run it wide open with no problem. I always lowered it in trashy areas and in salt sand. I was surprised at how much different it operates here. When I got a target that hit on nickel, it was a nickel, sq. tab or gold 90% of the time. The notch below cent would be brass, lead or if it jumped between that notch and cent it was a screw cap. With the sniper coil I would get wheat at 6"+ and the pp would barely detect it. That whisper of the pp is gone. Well it is there, but it just detects the minerals in the ground.
When I lived in Fl. I showed a newspaper reporter how good it id things. I told her what things were before I dug them up. I got lucky that day. I was a 100% accurate. She did an article on me with the Ace. I know how to run the Ace and make it work. I think it is time to get a MDer that will ground balance here in WEST VIRGINIA.

Yeah it's a different world there. Do you see a 2500 in your future? Either that or re-program yourself to recognize what the 250 is telling you in this new environment. I have to confess that I don't rely much on the display. I spent to many years behind BFO's and TR's. If it sounds good I dig it. Good luck bud.
