I've been curious for some time, but ultimately made the decision that if I had a beep/dig detector, it would probably become a closet queen as I like the display. Recently there was a Compadre on Craigslist for $100,, but again after much internal wrestling I decided my money was better off saved. Well today I was at the flea market and stumbled upon a Compadre in very, very good shape. I stopped and asked how much, and he said he was trying to get $75 out of it. I sat it back down and again said I don't need another detector. The seller said make an offer,,,,,, and well,,,,, I took it home for $40. Not sure of the age, but the only scratches are on the lower shaft where it slides into the gold upper. The solid white 6 inch-ish coil has no dirt or scratches either. Serial number starts with 13,,,, 2013 model maybe?

I swung it around the yard a bit, and it clearly is not a deep setup. But I like tinkering,,, might be a mod or two in the future. Gotta say, I really appreciate how light this thing is. Might make a nice tot lot machine.

That sounds like a very good bargain,i bought one basically brand new for the same type of price, still struggling too see what the fascination is that folks see in this machine, dont use mine as a detector these days, but by putting the small 4'' coil on it makes a superb pinpointer for relic/hoard hunting when using my TDI Pro,so thats its party piece for me i guess.

Well done on getting a bargain

Very good deal.

I've done pretty good at this flea market in the last couple of years. I've bought a couple of Bounty hunters for friends who wanted to get started cheap. One for $12 and one for $20. I also bought a new in box, Minelab pro-find pinpointer for $50.

Lol for 40 bucks you got a steal of a detector. Take it to your local school or park, tot lot etc, set the disc to the f 8n foil and dig all repeatable solid tones probably pay it off in a few outings and be thoroughly surprised at the performance.

You got a good buy on that one. You need to just get out and play with it. After a while , you will see what we all like about the compadre. IT is just fun to use and it will find a lot of good items for you. Mine will pay for itself every year. I do find a lot of silver and gold with mine. It is my go to detector... KEN

Be careful about modifying the unit. They are great machines just as they come.

Welcome to the :tesoro: clan.

It's not a depth monster. It's highly desired for it's ability to work in iron trash and ability to get fine gold that most detectors bypass. Just remember to set the "I" in "iron" as it's most famous setting. On either side of this setting rests the fame of this detector to work in iron and find the tiniest of gold. And yes, because of it's fast reset and unique response, you will actually find stuff the big guns miss. Depth isn' t everything.
Although it's said to be a shallow hunter, because of it's operating frequency, don't be surprised to find a nickel at 6" or a large gold ring at 8".

Well I learned something this weekend. The Compadre loves little small coin sized bits of old sheet metal roofing,,, rings up high and pretty like a coin. Took it to an old homesite I've beaten to death with an MXT and a T2. Between the deteriorated metal roof bits and chips of the cookstove, it's a bear to detect.

don't feel too bad etrac costs a pile more and likes flat bits of metal that I don't like most detectors do but not all.

Congratulations !
