I am new, and need info on my first purchase

I am new to the world of detectors and I need a few ideas on what unit I should purchase. I am retired and I spend my winters in Florida on the treasure coast. I plan on spending many mornings on the beach down there searching for treasure. I have been looking at the Hunter 3300 as a first purchase but I would like help with any useful information about this or any other unit that would be great for me to use, at a descent price that is. I would like to get it soon so that I could practice here at home and get the bugs out of my technique and learn the detector. Any and all ideas would be greatfully apreciated. Thanks for any time spent and 'happy hunting all'. By the way. The pic I used here is of a 6 foot, scratch built, model destroyer I am working on. That is my other hobby.

The 3300 has darn good performance. It goes deep and the numerical ID is very accurate down to 6-7 inches, but the construction quality could be better. I purchased two when RS put them on sale for $199, sold one of them and traded the other but am buying another tomorrow from a friend who only used it one time in his yard. The first two worked really well in my mild ground. Link is to something I wrote, and updated after each hunt, about the first 3300 as I used it the first few times. If you want to hunt in the wet salt sand or water the 3300 will have problems, but it should do great and go deep in the dry sand. For your next detector you might consider a dual or multi frequency detector, or perhaps a pulse unit, as they handle wet sand and salt water well.

The 3300 will do you proud if you stick to the dry sand and soil, but if you intend to hunt the surf, I would go with a dedicated beach machine or Pulse Induction type machine...They cost a bit more, but you should have less aggravation in the wet sand and surf...
Love the Destroyer...Very nice attention to detail...wish I had that type of artistic mind, but alas, the most artistic I get is in music....I play a little guitar, saxophone, clarinet, and Xaphoon (this sounds like a sax, but is small enough to put in a backpack...kinda looks like a shortened clarinet, without all the metal on it)....
