I am going to try to capture the creature, whatever it is! ............

When I moved the trash can out to the curb for pickup this morning, I discovered this hole under the trash can. Several days ago we had lots of rain and something evidently crawled under the trash can and dug a hole for a home. In a few minutes, I am going to get a lawn chair and sit a few feet away from the hole and hope I can get a picture of whatever it is leaving that hole. I am thinking about putting some dry cat food in front of the hole in hopes that it will encourage it to come out of the hole. I can not sit out there all afternoon, so after about an hour I will change tactics and check the hole from time to time throughout the afternoon. I hope that I will surprise it and get a good macro bug picture...I am assuming it is a bug. Just to be on the safe side, I will also have some bug spray and a three foot long 2 X 4 board with me too. I have set a dead line of 6:00 PM...that is when I will get more aggressive in forcing the creature out of that hole, probably put the water hose in the hole and flood it out. This almost looks similar to a crawdad hole, but most crawdad holes have piled up dirt around the complete hole. Hopefully, later today I will capture this thing and post a picture. could you reach down and put a coin beside the hole for us so we know how big it is and if you have a chance? Watch your fingers :yikes:

finger way down the hole and see what latches on  Let me know if that works:thumbup:

Whatever is living at the bottom of that hole did not come to the surface or else it was out roaming for the day and upon it's return spotted me and two neighborhood boys sitting by it's hole...and escaped to somewhere else. It was a judgement call, but I put a few small chuncks of a hot dog and some dry cat food around the hole and then placed a large coffee can over the hole. I then placed a brick on top of the coffee can so that if the creature is still in the hole, it can not escape, but will have some food to eat. One of the boys, Tyler, had a book about bugs, but we could not find any bugs that would make a hole like this one...it was an old book and may not be complete or up to date. All that I can say is that from the size of that hole, that has to be a big bug, if it is indeed a bug. I am hoping that it is a crawdad, but that is only a long shot at best. I will be checking the bug hole site as soon as the sun comes up tomorrow morning. I would really like to for once get a nice macro bug photo, one as good as the ones that Royal has posted on this Forum in the past. Kelley (Texas) :)

We do not know what is living in the hole...it could be something that bites! Kelley (Texas) :)

I do not want to use too much water and risk drowning the creature. Have you seen any holes like this before? Kelley (Texas) :)

in a few minutes I am going to put the nozzle of the water hose in the hole and turn the water on full blast...if it is in there, this should force it to the surface where I will capture it. Kelley (Texas)
