Hyder Arizona--General Patton's Staging Area

rifleman

New member
I'm going out to the Hyder - Dateland, Az area next Saturday (04-12-0:geek: to search the area where the troops were dropped off on the railroad line in the 1940's for training. Thousands of troops were in the area during the 2nd World War. I've got the GPS coordinates from another post. I've also got some satellite pictures of the area.
Is anybody interested in meeting me out there to do a hunt ?
My new 10.5 DD coil should be arriving on Friday and I'm dieing to give it a good work out. I want to get out there before the summer heat gets too bad.
If your interested, give me a P.M. and I'll give you my phone number. It would be great to meet up with one or more people from the board and do a hunt.

Good hunting, John K

I would love to do a hunt with you but it is too far to drive, LOL! I spent a week in AZ several years ago, I was in Phoenix attending a course on computers at the Motorola plant. Drove over to Glendale where my Grandmother lives for a few days visit with her. I love Arizona!!! There is some good opportunity there in AZ. You might try to find some railroad date nails while you are out there at the site, they are nice collectibles. Good luck and let us know how it goes, HH, Mike

Hyder is near Dateland off of highway 8 about 1.5 hours past Casa Grande which is at the I-10 - I-8 split. I'm in Casa Grande which is about an hour from Phoenix or Tucson. I can fit four people in my truck if we get that many who want to go.

John, Would love to give it a try sometime. Can't at this short notice. Last weekend I did Eagle Mountain, near Desert Center, Calif. Kaiser Steel's Mine operation and company town 140 miles east, from San Bernardino, where I live. Its now a modern day ghost town, fenced and accessible only by invitation. the fifties, sixties town gave up three silver dimes and many nice keepers. Over half just laying on top of the ground. Patton also had a bivouc area near Desert Center, so would love to hit that some time. Keep in touch and we might just meet some day. Gary/SanBdno.

Good finds. It's going to get pretty hot soon. This will be my only trip this summer (maybe), but come spring, if it produced anything on this trip, I will hit it again. It's not too bad of a drive from my place to get there.

Good hunting, John K

I've been doing some more research of the area. There are two camps, Hyder and Horn right in the same area. There is the train drop off point as well as the Ghost town of Hyder. I'm not sure about legal access to all these area, but the train drop of point is available for detection. One person who was out there said they found many old whisky bottles at the train drop off point.

Good hunting, John K

This is all new to me. Have never been on a forum before. Hope everyone will be patient with the old man. Was an avid hunter back in the late 70s and early 80s in Colorado. Had a couple Whites and a Teknetics. Found a lot of stuff, coins, jewelery, and artifacts. Don't know why I stopped but got the bug again a couple months ago and bought an x70. Haven't used it very much yet but really like it so far. Found a silver pendant and a massive silver men's ring and the usual clad. Haven't found any silver coins yet, but that will come as I learn this machine.
I'm presently looking for hunting buddies in the Florence, AZ area, and I'm interested in hunting most everything. Can travel some but the price of gas might limit that in the future.
Saw that that you were looking for someone to join you for the Dateland hunt. I know it's too late for that but would like to get together and do some other hunting.

Olderndirt, I'm right next door in Casa Grande. Give me a PM. We can get together and do some hunting. I was going to go out to Pattons's camps today, but got sick last night and didn't go. Not a lot of places around here with old coins that I have found yet, but I'm still trying. Sent you a PM

Good hunting, John K
