This thought/suggestion applies mainly to those that typically hunt with a fair bit of discrimination tuned in. I have gotten in the habit of using little or no discrimination until I hit a target. Then I turn the disc. knob up to see where the tone crackles and falls off. I've marked where the different targets fall off, nickel, tab, zinc penny, clad and silver etc. Hunting with this method helps assure that you don't swing right over a small bit of jewelry etc. and not hear a response at all.
