Hunting the Backyard

[attachment 20696 IMG_1267small.jpg]One of the benefits of the place I'm renting in Bermuda is that it has deeded access to the private beach of the hotel next door. At $450 - $950 a night you would think they would lose some good stuff in the water but so far just clad from this beach. I guess rich guys are too cheap to wear their jewellery into the water. lol

your hunting in the wrong spot! Look at that narrow beach and no bricks to move stuff! There's no room for a crowd at all but thats ideal. It tells me everyone's probably in the water!! If Max were there he'd be in the water and so would I.

It was just after high tide and the ACE 250 sucks in the salt water. I REALLY need to get an Excal. Even still, I had a lot of fun today at the major tourist beach down the road. Found enough clad to buy batteries and I got to check out the sun worshippers. Got to keep saving for that Excal.:detecting:

That purty water out there is so loaded that Ajax wouldn' take it off! An Excal could very well put you in the platinum, 18k, 14k in so many different shapes and sizes you can't imagine. You will also need a diamond checker. I own a CZcheckpoint and it works well and of course a jewelers loup (10 power is ok) and a gram scale to weigh your loot, cause you're gonna git it! IT'S ON!

All good points. I ran into a fellow detectorist at Horseshoe Bay today and found out that I am not alone on this rock. The local MD gang show up on this beach at 5:30 am during the tourist season to get the tourist loot. This is the off season so the beaches are rarely hunted and the water is largely virgin territory as nobody wants to hunt it. They know the loot is out there but they think the effort is too great and the water is too cold. Go Figure! It ain't too cold for this Canuck and we are all workoholics by nature, so gidde up. Just a few more weeks and I'll have enough to buy the Excalibur and pay the 30% customs duty (yuck), but then, look out baby. Good hunting to all --- especially those of you in the northern climes that have had to suffer thru winter, spring is practically here. actually it's always summer here - lol

in the water. The beach looks like there are only small waves most of the time. That isn't enough to move things up on the beach. But, it does make for pleasant hunting because the water will be clear and the waves won't be bashing you about.

As you are checking out those worshippers, take a look at what they have on. If you think real hard that clasp will come undone and that necklace with the big ole honker medallion will just fall right into the surf. Maybe that lovely platinum ring with the big ole honker diamond will git a little sunscreen under it and those shriveled up fingers.....well you know what can happen when you wear jewelry to the surf! Put the Ace on e-bay for $200 and then all you need is another $800 or so for the Excal and you will pay for it in a week!

Local Saying "Bermuda is Another World"
It's taken me a year to get used to living on this friendly and often Alice-in-Wonderland island but I really like it here and plan on staying as long as they'll have me (5 more years - max). I look forward to showing you around my island home away from home. :canadaflag::detecting:

Locals never go swimming until the water is in the mid 70's around June. The Crazy Canadians like me will go in the water year round, though at 62.5 degrees F it's a little brisk right now. Air temp is around 70 F right now (down in the 50's at night) which to an acclimatized Bermudian is dreadfully cold. I've had locals refuse to work on my construction jobs because it was too cold at 52F for a daytime high and everything stops when it rains - just because. After a year here I have decided to keep my sanity and go with "When in Rome do as the Romans", life is a lot less complicated that way.
