I live in duncanville TX and was wondering if anybody knows of any good spots to go hunting in the dfw area my dad is the one who got me into metal detecting
and he just bought me my first metal detector it is a bounty hunter Quicksilver .
any ideas would be greatly appreciated
thanks

We have some Texas guys and girls on here, they can tell you better than me. I'm from Ohio. Good hunting!

I started in my own yard. After about 10 hours of detecting I moved to my local parks and schools. The biggest thing was getting my pinpointing down. I dug several "big" holes in my lawn. It takes practice to learn your machine esp. the pinpointing part. Trust me you want to start at home before going out anywhere else and "digging" big holes. Just my view. After you feel good about pinpointing got to tot lots playgrounds schools. I found my first gold ring my second time out at a playground. Then do research at the local library. You may also want to look into joining a local MD'ing club. I did and have been helped a lot by folks who have been doing it for a long time. Good luck:detecting:

Places To Go Metal Detecting

Here's some ideas of places where you can go detecting: But don't forget to follow the Rules and Regulations if such are known or posted.

Backyards - your own, your friends, or neighbor's
Look for - old clotheslines, tree swings, flowerbeds, porches, walkways to outhouse
What you'll find - depends on how old the land is that the house its on. Coins, relics, jewelry, bottles, maybe a cache?

Beaches - local beaches, town beaches, ocean beaches. Find a beach near you!
Look for - where most people congregate during the busy season
What you'll find - coins, jewelry, watches, relics depending on location.

Parks - city parks, old parks, old ballfields, picnic areas, campgrounds
Look for - large trees, places lovers hide to get away from the crowd
What you'll find - coins, older coins, maybe jewelry

Playgrounds - city playgrounds, old playgrounds, sandboxes, swings
Look for - grassy areas, old trees, shady spots, unpaved parking lots
What you'll find - coins, kids jewelry, toys, wedding bands, watches

Woods - local woods, stone walls, foundations, cellar holes
Look for - new paths, old overgrown paths, search near the road, hiking trails, old wagon roads, foundations, old cellar holes
What you'll find - coins, bottles, relics depending on location

Fields - old farmfields, tobacco fields, cotton fields, cattle, sheep, any farmfield
Look for - go after a heavy rain, the main entrance to the farm, if you hit on a coin thoroughly search that specific area.
What you'll find - prime spot for older coins, relics depending on location, artifacts

Riverbanks - old marinas, old ferry launches, old fishing spots, old swimming holes
Look for - broken pottery and glassware, iron debris, old bridges
What you'll find - prime spot for older coins, relics, buttons, bullets, sinkers, indian artifacts
Research Your Spots

bigwes2, Congrats on your new Bounty Hunter! I bet you are excited to get out and do some serious dirt fishin! I'm in NY so I wouldn't know about places there in TX! But I can wish you luck on you first hunt with your own machine!:bounty:

Look for bleached out, old looking cigarette filters, (they have a slow decay rate, are light and stay above ground.) Detect around places that have lots of them. Smokers, reaching for their "Zippos" loose more coins than anyone else. I believe that's where most coins we find come from. Good luck.:smoke::smoke::smoke:

Another idea that sometimes pays off is backyards. Mentally picture yourself as a little boy pirate who's just grabbed pop's ring off the dresser. Where could you go so no one would see you bury it, from the house. Long ago my then neighbor told of 25 silver dollars that disappeared out of a drawer. The only one who could have taken it was his little son. The father always thought the kid buried them in the back yard. (That was before I was into metal detectors.) One of my sons (maybe both) buried coins from my finds in the back yard later, I found many of them. Hummmmmm! I've never explored this houses back yard. Maybe when my new 7' B.H. coil gets here I'll give it it's first baptism of fire out back.:detecting:
