hunting speed

i hunt with a friend who owns a good but simple detector. his is a entry level tesoro. well he doesnt get the depth i do but he is much faster than me and cleans up when we find a new spot. is there any way i can speed up my machine so i can hunt faster and cover more gound??? sometimes i do find a sweet deep coin he cant even sense but in the long run he finds more shallow than i do deep.

There is no requirement to search slow with the Explorer. The speed of operation and frequency of the detection signals is such that we cannot sweep too fast. The idea of a slow sweep is to get good ground cover and if we use discrimination to give the detector a chance to recover after a null. So, the advice to search slow is simply to go slow and listen to faint deep targets and to get a good ID and not pass over a target while in null. The detector you mentioned has a simple 2 or 4 filter design which is very fast in recovery but lacks depth. As an Example some machines have a 6 filter design for greater depth in different ground conditions. The bottom line is search as fast as you like as long as you are confortable that you are still getting the deep targets if that is important.
