Hunting Relics vs. Cache Hunting

Does anyone on this forum hunt caches when they're not hunting for relics? Do you use a different machine or do you just use a larger coil? It seems the only thing harder than getting local relic hunters to talk about their sites is finding anyone that hunts caches and will talk about the type of equipment they use and what's been successful. I'm not looking for any trade secrets here, just some useful advise. TIA.

Cashes are where you find them. I have found 4 coin cashes and several relic cashes over the 39 years that I have been digging. Every time I go looking for a cashe, I usually do not find them. When I am out hunting for coins or relics only, that is when they pop up. The last cashe I found was in July of this year. It was 4 Walking Liberty Half Dollars and 29 Silver Washington Quarters spread over a site of about 10 feet. I was hunting for coins and what ever else would come up at a Rite Aid Construction Site 2 blocks from my house. When I found these. 2 days before that at the same site I found 47 Lincoln Cent on the other end of the site. While relic hunting a few years ago I found 40 rounds of .58 Cal Minnie Balls all in one clump at an old Civil War Camp here in West Virginia. I had found an ammo pouch full of bullets. So you never know when they will pop up. Just keep your coil to the soil and you will eventually find one of your own. HH...Jesse.
