Hunting parks in Saltwater Mode?

kanaka2

New member
What does the Saltwater mode do? I follow Evan Granger (gonehunting for history) and in his latest video he was hunting a yard in the grass looking for silver coins and after finding a nice seated quarter mentioned he was hunting in saltwater mode. Said it made the signal clearer. ?? Anyone else use the saltwater mode regularly when hunting parks for coins?

I use it every time I hunt.. I have extremely high mineralization here in northern California so the ctx will not allow high sensitivity for depth. With Saltwater on, I can crank her up to 30. I posted some nice finds about a month ago. Check them out. It definitely helps with falsing due to the higher sensitivity.

Dirtbag is right, here in Southern Cal. Seawater setting is a must, cause if we don't use it, my sens. would be around 14 or less. If they hadn't of up graded and put that setting on the machine I would have sold my CTX long ago. It will let you run much higher sens. in bad ground, and I think all of California is bad ground mainly the beaches.

There has to be some negativity about California since you always have Sunshine and Blue Skies :)

My Twin Brother lives out there but he does not MD but always comments on the nice weather

For those using Seawater in high mineralized soil do you enable GB and perform a manual GB or leave the GB Enabled unchecked and let the CTX figure the best ground setting?

Enable saltwater and ground coin then manual GB.. I have noticed a major loss of depth using ferrous coin in mineralized soil.. It just won't pick up the good target.

Again Dirtbag has it right, just yesterday I was on the beach in the dry black sand using ferrous coin, got a very slight hit for a coin, I wasn't going to dig it, but then I switched to the same program only it's set up with ground coin, it gave me a clear repeatable signal, it was a quarter at 13 inches, with the 17'' coil.

I mostly due the beach, I have a super good friend Peggy that someday when we can get together will take me to a good place and teach me the proper way to hard ground hunt. She's really good at that kind of hunting.

I've been hunting parks with Saltwater on, thanks to Dirtbag Kevin's advice and it works well! I've been running with ground balance in auto however. Tried it with GB on but found myself thinking about it too much, wondering if I had it set right etc because of so much stuff in the soil so I just set it back to auto GB, or GB disabled. I might not be doing it right, but thought what the heck the machine knows more than I do and I didn't want to take a chance on hurting my depth...
