Hunting open fields?

JHM

Member
I need a good combination to hunt open fields. Something that is deep and can cover some ground. I have an XL Pro and my least expensive option would be a 15 inch coil. But I wonder if it would be any deeper on bullets and buttons. I also thought a minelab advantage with a large coil or a silver umax with the 10 by 12 concentric. Target ID is not as important as depth but I would like to be able to tell deep stuff from shallow. I have a sovereign but don't think I can cover the area with the slow sweep speed. What's your opinion?

I have a Whites MXT and a Sov GT and I use the MXT as my main searching tool, I hunt 100 acres fields plus. The recovery time is faster than the GT, I use the 9,5 coil on the MXT the12inch coil is five ounces heavier and if you are going to hunt for long periods of time the five ounces is a significant difference , I like the GT also but not to cover large areas, but what I do after I find the area I'll sweep it with the MXT and then sweep that area again with the Sov GT. I have found nice coins and relics with both machines. Good Luck, Ezra.
