Hunting on a hillside

I suppose most of our hunts are on a flat ground surface, at least mine are; obviously this means the center of my coil is directly above the target at some point in my sweep. What I am wondering is how the crosshair will react when the coil is at an angle over a target such as hunting on a hillside. If I am sweeping the surface of the ground, keeping my coil as close as I can, then the target will not be directly under the coil but off to one side of center. I wouldn

Good afternoon,

Well depending on your sweeping technic, if it's text book and parallel to the ground regardless of the hill angle no differences should take place. Magnetic field as far as physics 101 go, are a force not bound by gravity (unified field theory has not been proven... yet). So the key is in the basic coil parallel to the ground. As far as the crosshairs dancing due to a slope, would only contribute to your sweeping techinic. Deep targets and dancing is like playing the violin. Starts off horrible but gets better with time. Search for smartfind screen on the forum, I believe mike's screen patterns were the name of them and will help you out alot. If I find them I will link them for you.

(If the hill is at a 45 degree, your coil in turn should also be at a 45 while searching.)

HH,

Tom

P.S. Make sure to double up seaching where the hill meets the flat. That's the coin catcher spot.

Here is Mikes screens: http://www.frontiernet.net/~jvokes/exscreens.htm You are over thinking it..... the DD scans the ground much like a zerox machine and you have a HALO. keeping your coil parallel to the ground is parallel to the ground..... level or hill. Also remember as you move up a hill there is less soil and coins may not be as deep because they will be stopped by heavier objects. Most targets move to a depth of equal targets.

Thanks Tom and Dew, I guess I was over thinking it; the more I think about it the more I realize I was. The coil doesn't know or care if the ground is level or if the grade is 45% or 10%, it just reads what
