I got to spend about three hours hunting a really iron infested Mission - Victorian era site. I spent about two of the three hours cleaning iron out with my Coinstrike. I've never dug so many square nails and other junk before, but I made a dent.
After that I spent about an hour going over a 10' x 10' area very slowly with my Sovereign and this is what I came up with:
The lid ended up being silver, it's marked "39 STERLING ALVIN" :
The spoon really has me puzzled. At first I thought the spoon might copper, but under the patina it's gold colored, odd, not sure what to make of that. I'm thinking the spoon might be a colonial era piece, anyone have any ideas ??
HH,
Brian
