Hunting in the surf

How do you surf hunters keep from getting smacked around by the waves when hunting in waist deep water. I don't mind having waves hitting me, I just don't want to get dunked if I can help it. Waist deep is about as far out as I'll be going.

You are going to get pounded. So don't try using anything but a submersible unit. Sometimes these things just can't be avoided. The bright side is that when it is rough the surf is potentially moving treasures around and hopefully thinning the sand and great treasures await you in the surf. You will find that you're conditioning will improve with time and you will smile as the wave goes smashing over you. Then Davy Jones will unlock that locker of his and AARRGG! There it will be, a gold ring in you're surf scoop! Then all that pounding will pay off.

Gulf Hunter is correct there, he got pounded monday, I declined to go into the water, stayed on land, and smoked him.
