Hunting in the Rain

Has anyone figured out something that could be used as a plug for the headphone jack on the machine so that moisture doesn't get into it if you're hunting in the rain with the wireless pack in your pocket?

I came across some rubber feet but the stem is a little to wide to go into the jack opening.

I think that's just for when the headphone module is removed to connect water proof headphones.

It takes about 15 seconds to remove the headphone module and put the dust cap on. The cap really isn't even needed for the rain, it just keeps dust/dirt out of the connector.

I don't use the headphone adapter so I keep the screw on cap on all the time.

Pretty much the same here... It is awkward looking without it but I suppose I already look strange enough crawling around under bushes alongside the road with my detector.

So you're using the waterproof headphone then or no?

When it is raining out I were my Koppen rain coat and pants which has a nice big hood so I can were the headphones underneath it.

This post can be deleted so it doesn't confuse anyone. I just took the headphone adapter off and saw that I would screw the plastic bolt into the waterproof headphone socket and then use my wireless (tucked inside something like a rain jacket, of course) and then I can detect in the rain. Sorry.

I just looke back and noticed I didn't answer your question. I DO NOT use waterproof headphones... But I guess it's all a moot point now...

I assumed the headphones you normally use were under the hood of your Koppen wear. How heavy is that stuff? Is it stifling to wear during a summer shower?

It's alot better than one of those older style yellow rain coat.

This is the kind I have and I am really happy with it since it does "breath", has big pockets, and a big hood. My only complaint would be that it is a bit tight around the armpits so If I could do it again I may have got one size up.

Hopefully I won't be spanked for posting a link

I'm thinking about just picking up an Extra Large Shower Cap at Walmart. That way Don't have wear anything hot over my Tee shirt.

eeeehhh. well, I suppose it would work. Of course the rain would drip down your back... I am picturing me walking around with a shower cap on my head alongside of the road with my detector in hand. I think I would be even more worried about being picked up for mental observation...

LOL!!! LOL!!! ROFL !!! What a picture!!!

I usually wear a cravat under the back part of my hat and down the back of my neck so I don't get sunburned.

The sun is starting to break out here in Central PA. I'm not getting out today though. I have to be back in at the church at 5:30. I play bass guitar for our Saturday evening rockin' contemporary service and I have yet to eat today.

The wife will let me go tomorrow. She's very supportive!

I am working today so not detecting for me, plus the weather isn't great. It could be a hurricane outside right now and I wouldn't know it....What a nice wife! We have two kids so it will be difficult to get out detecting on Mother's Day...
