Hunting in C/J Mode

New member
I have been at this for about 5 mos and found a bit of stuff with this detector. I use the c/j mode exclusively and have tried the relic mode, but I cannot see the advantage of it. All I have is 2 tones and most of the time the items and area I hunt produce either coins or jewelry. I know a lot of people on this site like this mode, but the info displayed, buckle, or bullet etc. are not accurate representations of what is in the ground. I do not feel that I can better info in relic mode and the depth is the same. I think many people think this is a beginner mode, but I feel the information displayed is more accurate. What do you guys think? What mode do you use most? Marty

I'm with you on that I did switch to relic mode and liked it a lot but here lately I been using c/j mode and I have done a lot better at finding coins in the parks.
As for depth I don't think there's any advantage in either mode even when I used relic I would switch back to c/j to identify and it picked up everything the relic mode did.
The tones to me now seems much clearer on a good target in c/j mode than the relic mode does so for me I'm just gonna keep using c/j in the parks and when I do go relic hunting I'll use that mode then.

As for it being a beginner mode not so with the mxt one is just as good as the other it's just a matter of choice of what works best for you I have seen where some says they detect parks in prospect mode in which I'd never do but if it works for them that's great.

Hey Easy. I use the relic mode/ alternate (trigger forward) setup exclusively. Many people claim to get more depth, which I believe, but I have not been able to conclusively prove that personally. The BIG advantage I find in using this setup is the information you get and how you receive it...audibly. In trashy and or dense target areas, you can pick the high tones out of the confusion for further investigation. Makes it much, much easier to work through multiple signals and identify possible good targets without glancing at the screen at every signal. Hunt in the mode your comfortable with for now but after you become more comfortable with your machine, try out relic mode/ trigger forward...you'll probably be a believer. I also stayed in C/J mode for my first couple of months with the MXT but as soon as I was really ready for relic mode I never looked back. You'll know when you're ready. JMHO

Howdy,
I'm with srf2112 , I read the book concerning RELIC, and started using it
Trigger forward,(alternate ) and I set disc where I want for the area at hand, and those 2 tones help me
to not be looking at that screen all the time.
And theres times a mixed signal comes along, and if I rock my DD 6x10 l can pick out if theres 2 items ,or just 1.
??????? its weird, and I am still learning.
Also, and I may be wrong, but doesnt the Relic /Alternate mode run a little different on the threshold speed ?
Hmmm???
But then again, I havent tryed out the parks yet.
Keep up the hole diggin,,lol
and Good Luck in your finds
Dusty

When you say rock do you mean side to side or tilting the 6x10?
I believe in relic mode alternate setting the SAT speed is faster than trigger center mode.

I've had my MXT for about a year and a half and I still use C/J mode. I do lots of relic hunting too and use the C/J mode then too. I just like it and I'm used to it. HH John

C/J & Relic alternate has a fast sat speed and the relic primary has a slower sat speed that's why the threshold sound is more steady in relic primary trigger center.

I'm with JohninNC, I mostly use the C/J mode as I'm used to it and it has worked well for me. I've tried the relic mode, trigger forward a few times and can see where it's useful in certain conditions, but not a be-all for most of the areas I coin shoot.

I started learning the MXT on Relic mode, then I went to CJ and finally Relic Alternate. My personal way to config is to use CJ as long as I can depending the amount of trash

I rock it side to side
from different angles of approach.
i dont kniow if its all in my head,
but if I get a mixed signal, ill try that, sometimes its one item giving a mixed signal
sometimes though, that will differentiate two sounds for me
and i'll find a pull tab within an inch of a penny
Maybe my regular sweeps are too fast,
i just read a post where the guy says to sweep slow in Relic alternate./
AAAArrgghh still learning, lol
good Luck to ya
