Hunting gold with the x-terra 70

I live in Australia, queensland and Im heading to the palmer river in about 2 to 3 months for a little prospecting. It was an awsome gold field in its day. I have a few friends that have had success on both gold and old relics....mainly chinese coins, buttons, badges ect...I have used a GP extreme in the past from minelab and have owned an exp II as well and was happy with both machines. I now own a x-terra 70 and am looking forward to trying it out prospecting. I know its capabilities when it comes to coins and other items and am very pleased with the results so far. I will be using my stock 8" concentric coil and a DD coil as well although not sure to go for the eliptical or the 10.5 DD. I like a solid coil when out in the bush as there are plenty of snags and things to catch you when you sweep so Im leaning towards the eliptical at present. 18.75 khz is fine for me but if there is a 7.5 khz DD out there for the terra could someone let me know. Im new to the forums and have tried to read as much as I can but I thought posting my first message might be a good way to meet some cool people and make some new friends at the same time. I am greatful for any feedback.

Technology is a beautiful thing.

The 18.75 is the right choice for minerals and coverage. I use myself... ...wouldn't leave home without it! I haven't heard of any new coils coming out from anyone! Has anyone heard about a new coil?...
Where do you get the 10.5 DD coil? My elliptical is only 9"... or am I wrong?

There is a 10.5" coil for the terra 70 it looks like an exp II coil and its a DD coil so I guess you would need some plugs to fill the gaps in the coil. Sun ray make them although Im not sure where to purchase them from. So richs how successfull have you been with the x-terra 70 nugget shooting? And whats the deepest and smallest peice of gold you have found?

As I understand it, you would really want to use the 18.75 eliptical coil for nuggets. The emitted pattern is more of a "blade" then conical. As you increase upwards in frequency you are more apt to detect a smaller nugget due to gold's conductivity and "return signal". Smitty II has an excellent post further down this site as well as a pic of anice nugget found in AZ with an X-70. Also, Minelab's free video has a segment on prospecting mode that is worth viewing if you haven't already. I'm no expert on the subject but have selected the 70 because of it's ability to be used in this mode as well as coins and relics. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Good luck finding the AU!

Thanks for the post m8 I appreciate any input. I have seen the Video you told me about on the U-Tube live feed, just type X-terra 70 in the search engine and both part 1 and 2 can be viewed......and yes its quite good. There are also many other metal detecting videos to watch as well that I recomend.

Cheers!
