Hunting for gold

Hey guys. I know of a lot you don't hunt primarily for gold, but there are several fresh water beaches with grassy areas where I live that have consistently produce gold jewelry.

I have a question for the gold hunter out there using the CTX. Do you dig penny signals when hunting for gold? I've been ignoring anything between CO 30 and 45 to avoid pennies and dimes. Has anyone dug gold in this range? I sometimes wonder if I may be missing big gold rings.

One day here in Hawaii last December while hunting in the ocean, I got a 36 reading which is what a new zinc penny reads. I dug it up and it was very nice to see a gold wedding band in my sand scoop. 18K and 8,8 grams!

Thanks, Terry. I guess I'll have to dig some zincolns.

I only water hunt and use my CTX for all my freshwater hunting in lakes and rivers.

I dig all 30's signals because larger gold rings read higher on the scale. If you get a gold ring in the 30's.....you can bet it's good size.

If you want the big class rings for SURE dig the zinc penny range!!

Ingot two rings that came up as pennies...different machine...but still the same

Yep...unfortunately those big gold mens class rings are right in the zinc signal...those girls class rings are dead on pulltab. I met an old guy when I was very new at this who told me to "dig 1000 pulltabs and dig 1000 pennys"...so I did. got three class rings out of this excersize. I sort of pick the signals now though...depending upon the location...a zinc signal or a pulltab signal in the outfield of a baseball diamond is a digger for sure!

I found four gold rings at a particular spot about 200 by 100 feet in size by ignoring anything CO30 and above. This has me wondering if I left some big gold.

Yeah? Thats some sort of "drop zone" for sure...better go back, thinking big gold rings and perhaps necklaces, chains of some sort..

I also found several silver rings and a silver necklace digging CO 47 and up. Here is a pic of the spot.
