Hunting Fairgrounds for the First Time. Need advice :help:

Dodo the 3rd

In about two weeks, I plan on coming to my local fairgrounds to metal detect with my AT Pro. This will be my first time detecting on fairgrounds, so I was wondering if there is any certain techniques on searching such an area. Any advice I need? Thanks :twodetecting:

There will probably be bottlecaps up the wazoo. So use a concentric coil, if you have one. If not, start learning how to discriminate BC's with a DD coil. Monte & myself have done posts on this. You may also wish to post DD coil BC discrimination question on the AT Pro forum.

The fair grounds here is loaded with trash and iron galore. Go slow and be prepared to switch to a smaller coil. Hunt the first 3 to 4 feet out from walk paths where they have booths setup, also check the parking areas. People pull out their keys and change falls out right along with them.

I would rig up a maganet of pretty good size, on a string. Sweep the area with that first, then use the detector... or get a signal, use the magnet, and if nothing comes up, then find the coin.
