Hunting etiquette

Hello, Am new to detecting. What is the etiquette if someone finds a silver coin, and they are a friend.
Should I go and detect right by him, her, or give space.
I have so far given space. Just curious. I am also a golfer and know all the etiquette rules.

Dan.

I think it's understandable to want to go exactly where the good stuff is and has been found. Always put yourself in the position of the other hunters. Would these actions bother you? This may be a different answer for everyone. Another option is to practice invading other's space without them knowing. These guys can help you perfect your technique, good luck with this. JJ :chase:

Not on the first... you jump on the spot on the second coin for sure  Ive never really let someone finding coins around me bother me to the point i move right in. Them finding silver just lets me know it there. Then i try harder to look at the area and move to more promising part. After they leave i might hit that spot again.... i dont mind hunting behind someone.... especially if i hit something they missed. That really puts them in the possition... should i move back haha. Its exciting to see your fellow hunter finding things... but there is always that competitivness.

I have this friend Robert, who I hunt with a lot. (It was his grandson who gave me Tasha (my avatar) ) Say one of us finds a good coin. At times, not all, but sometimes, we will call the other over, and let them look around the same area, usually at a different angle of sweep lane. You can choose to be "greedy", and it is ok to do so, or you can build a bond with a friend, and it might become a hunting habit with that person, inviting each other to a reasonably immediate area where a good find is made, sharing in the moment. Part of the joy of this hobby is sharing finds, and sharing the finding of a silver or two is pretty cool.

The exhilaration of a good find is catching. I am a firm believer in positive thinking as you detect. It tends to focus your attention on the sounds.

So, next time YOU find a good target, invite your friend over, and see if it doesn't build your bond. Even if he doesn't reciprocate, do it again, and again, and he will catch on.

Two cents,
One time i saw a Young doofus actually yell at an older gentleman for hunting in his line some 20 feet away. I thought there was going to be a fist fight! This same younger guy has stopped twice and asked if he could hunt with me in places I have gotten permission. I will always tell him NO the homeowner will not let me return if I start letting others hunt. On the other hand the other gentleman has hunted with me 4-5 times and I really like him. I suggest you always ask the person you are hunting with how close is too close. The coins start to show up in hot spots and if they cant handle you hunting close then why hunt with them. Of course if it is there site that they took you to then be mindful of this and ask them where they think you should hunt and how close. On the other hand people you take you should expect them to also want to jump in right next to where you just pulled that silver dime from...so let them know up front as well.

I don't like to hunt around other folks much and generally I try to stay away from them, but I really enjoy the anonymity of the forum and the association with guys who wont hunt in my spots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had people circle me like coyotes on a carcass... it can be very irritating, especially if their machine interfere's with mine and I hear chatter on my headphones. Some of them had done this repeatedly, so I never hunt with those people - ever. They never find places, they just look for others to do the legwork and then jump into their spots.

If you would like to hunt near someone, please have the courtesy to ask. Do not assume.

Bryce said when he hunts with Guvner, if Guvner finds something good..:detecting:...... Bryce " Pops him in the Jib and crowds his turf " ..:punch:... I guess it goes along with their relationship.....:starwars:
Although I'm sure that is fun for Bryce, it is not the recommended detecting etiquette ............... :lmfao:.....
