Hunting community colleges?

dobbie

New member
I think i may have asked this before but really didnt get an answer. Is it ok to hunt community colleges or does one need to obtain permission?

I live right down the street from a huge community college. one that people come to from all over the state. The 49ers pro football team used it for a long time as thier training camp till they just couldnt take the heat anymore. I am dying to detect here. If i need permission who would i ask? Any help on this would be great. thanx

I guess you could just start hunting it till you get tossed,, and if you ask I suspect there going to say No anyway,,, JMO,, but I do hate looking over my shoulder SIGH

From where I live in Canada, it is private property. But asking permission to search it may be your best way to go.

Sounds like a "Foggy Sunday Morning" kind of hunt to me

You sound ironic I think.

But here in NY the very first advise I got from an experienced detectorist when I bought MXT was - to buy a quality military/hunting style camouflage outfit. I cannot imagine myself going to the park without my camo. And we quietly leave the park between 8 and 9 A.M. when park rangers and gardeners are coming to work. Many of us here buy vibration handels to use instead of headphones to hear rangers` cars approaching and to freeze in the bush untill they pass.

If not these survival skills neither you nor your machine do not last even two weeks.

This one we use for rain: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mens-Rain-suit-Mossy-Oak-Camouflage-Rainsuit-Sz-XL-NEW_W0QQitemZ310086380434QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item310086380434&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

My buddy Eric loves this one for general dry hunt: http://cgi.ebay.com/4-Piece-mil-spec-woodland-camouflage-ghillie-suit-M-L_W0QQitemZ320305601597QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320305601597&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

It looks bulky but is VERY light weight. But not good for rain.

Stephan has a suit that looks exactly like a tree when Stephan does not move.

Jr. Colleges are public places, so no, I would not ask. Coinhog is right: You could ask if you wanted to (as if it were needed), but you'd probably get a "no", when in fact no one would probably have noticed or paid attention to you. Like, whomever you ask might have images of geeks with shovels, etc...so they just give the easy answer.

In my city, our Jr. College was blt in the 1930s. The lawn is open to the public for things like jogging, etc... so I considered it no different than any other public school, park, etc.... Got silver coins there. Just use obvious discretion, go at low traffic times, don't leave a mess, don't be in the middle of deep extractions when busy-bodies are standing there, stay away from obvious historic landmarks, etc... and you'll be ok.

I've hunted community colleges on the weekends, and nobody cared. After all it is your tax dollars that paid for the school.

"Many of us here buy vibration handels to use instead of headphones to hear rangers` cars approaching and to freeze in the bush untill they pass." Where would a guy find one of these handles ? do they plug in like head phones ?

Camo-jeep-man: What are you talking about? Sounds like you're talking about sneaks or night-hunts in off-limits areas? What does that have to do with the topic here? Since when does one assume that a public place is "off-limits" unless told otherwise? (posted, on-the-books somewhere, etc...) Why can't the pyschology be the OTHER way that: a place is ok, unless told otherwise?

But please do not tell anybody! It is secret!!!

You need also to buy a camo pants and jacket to have even better chances to hunt.

HH!!

:goodnight:

In any event, do it when the school is closed and be as low key as possible. If only because the faculty may include an Anthropology/archaeology instuctor who 'just hates treasure hunters'. I kept quiet when the issue was raised in that class. I've said enough, we've done that subject to death.
